August 17th 10:43 a.m.
The sunlight pooled into the room through the still open window, bathing you softly in its warmth. Too much warmth, actually. The sun seems to latch itself on your legs, feeling as though it was slowly roasting them inside their black painted pantlegs.
You groan, rubbing your weary eyes to allow them to adjust to the brightness of the room. The... unfamiluar, familiar room. Wait up, you think, scanning the environment, your sleep clouded mind still unable to pinpoint just where you are.
You try to push yourself off of your stomach to sit up, but your pillow shifts under you a bit. Your heart races, unsure of what stirred.
Is this a person? Your brain seems to work at 10 frames a second, making you feel defective and confused. Who would you be laying on top of if not-...? No, it cant be him right? What happened last night. God who were you last with, think damn you think! You shout to yourself in your clouded head.
You cautiously allow yourself to try and examine the figure under you, looking upward toward his face. Your brain snaps the pieces together the instant they land on Mark's sleeping face.
You can hardly believe it took you this long to remember falling asleep on Mark's shoulder last night in the middle of the movie. Did he fall asleep as well? That would explain the position change...
You allow yourself to examine your bodies, unsure why it really matters to you how the two of you almost seem glued together. Perhaps it creates a puzzle to solve, or perhaps you're simply stalling so you dont have to leave the comfort of human touch yet.
Mark's head rests on the arm of the couch, slightly proping it up like bad pillow. One of your arms is pressed between your bodies, effectively pinning it, while your other arm is laid flat across his chest, your hand limply resting on his shoulder. His arms are latched around the small of your back, seeming to lock you in place. You cant help but wonder if he made a cognative descision to place them there or if they simply moved there in the night.
Your eyes skim down to your legs, finding one of your thighs laid acrossed both of his, but your calf now rests on the opposite side of him, almost hanging off the edge of the couch. Your other leg is straight, pressed against the back of the couch as one of his runs parrallel to it, being taller than you, his foot rests on the arm of the sofa. His other leg is bent off the edge, his foot resting flat on the floor.
Hm. Thats quite a dramatic change from last night. Did he simply pull you into him as he fell off into slumber, or did he choose not to wake you, and instead allow you to get comfortable though any means you found?
It doesnt matter does it? This is Mark you're mentally discussing. So what that the two of you take comfort in one another like this now. Who's going to stop you? Jack? Why would he? Because he still loves you...? The hope makes your cheeks heat in embarressment at the situation.
Ok, maybe you shouldnt be here. You gently try to peel away from him, avoiding putting any more of your weight on him than you already had. Being very careful to place your knee by his hip to climb over him, you gently lift yourself off his chest, putting your weight on your hands on the couch by his side and on the arm by his head.
He shifts again, groaning sleepily as his grip on your lower back suddenly tightens, breaking your feeble brace and falling back onto Mark's chest with a soft swear.
You squirm to remove some of your weight from ontop of him, unsure if you could fully remove yourself now that his grip had tightened exponetially.
He continues to twitch and adjust under you, slowly beginning to wake. His eyes flutter open, first looking around the room before falling on you. He stares at you for only a moment, his eyebrows pinched, before seeming to put the pieces together for himself. His eyebrows shoot upward, quickly releasing his grip from you, holding them up as if he are in some kind of hostage situation.
"Good morning!" He blurts awkwardly, his voice still groggy and uncleared. His cheeks redden deeply, and he holds his hands up in the air as if hes unsure what to do with them.
You climb off of him carefully, brushing yourself off as if brushing away the awkward moment. The two of you glance at one another awkwardly but quickly cast your eyes in seperate directions.
"Good morning." You mumble, your eyes still not meeting him, shuffling your weight uncomfortably.
"I uh, I'm sorry about...." You allow your apology to fade off as you make a terse guesture at both him and the sofa.
Mark sits up, stretching his shoulders and rubbing his probably very stiff neck. Sleeping like he was did not look comfortable what so ever.
"No worries." He says, still averting his gaze from yours as he drops his hand from the back of his neck to his thigh.
The small fact that he refused to look at you makes you anxious that there are indeed worries. You bite your lip unsurely, dropping your eyes to the floor. You had never cuddled Mark before. What with neither of you seeing eachother as a cuddle source, and being with Seán for so long now, it feels odd to have happened so easily.
Thats not to say he isnt comfortable. You surely slept better last night cuddling against him rather than if youd spent it alone again. The thought of crawling back to your empty bed makes you wince. Then again, though, while you and Mark share a close relationship, the two of you seem to have a mutual understanding about too much physical contact. Not that either of you have much discussed it, but more so of a certain unspoken idea between you.
"You want some coffee?" Mark offers from his seat on the couch, his eyes finally landing on you after thoroughly inspecting the room. You politely shake your head, not wanting to seem ungreatful for the offer.
"No, thank you." You try to force a smile. He stands from the couch, making his way to the kitchen, still seeming to stretch the sleep away.
"You sure? I always make too much." Mark says, seeming to melt back into his typical easy tone rather than force it. You sigh quietly in relief, glad that tonight can be forgotten without another word.
"That's ok. I think I'm going to go visit the coffee shop." You say, your eyes gliding over to the open window. As much as you enjoy Mark's company, you feel the need for air, and a polite escape to forget the odd stirring in your being that hasnt settled since it began this morning.
"Alright then. Tell Bell I say hi, k?" He asks, tossing a typical smirk over his shoulder as he fills the machine with water. You try to return it but it fades away.
You make your small journey over to the window but Mark stops you with a call of your name.
"Should I expect to see you later?" He asks, bracing his palms on the counter, leaning back against it, crossing his ankels.
You think back to your silent, lonely apartment and cringe. If you have it in you to go home just yet. But if you find yourself going back may strength be with you. You quirk your lips, dropping your hand so that they land on your thighs with a slap.
"Most likely." You reply, trying to sound chipper about it. Mark smiles at you in his oh so usual way.
"Cool, we'll go get tacos." He says, lifting his eyebrows and turning his back to you.
"See ya later, twerp." He teases without turning back to you as he begins making his cup of coffee. The corners of your lips turn slightly upward.
"Later nerd." Surprised that your natural humor isnt forced in your response. He glances back at you over his shoulder, his own lips pulled back
"Love ya." He says easily.
"Ewe." You grin as he narrows his eyes at you. "Love ya too." You say, crawling out of the window after earning a smile from him. Your hoist yourself onto the rooftop, aware of the slight protest in your hand.
You examine the blue, purple, green, black mess painted acrossed your knuckles and up some of your fingers. You sigh, attempting to rub away the discomfort, but only causing more in your efforts.
You shake your head at yourself as you numbly make your way to your window, lowering yourself inside one handed.
