August 21st 8:11 a.m.
The two friends stand a few feet apart, searching around for the right parting words, but none seem to naturally flow forward. James leans against the hood of his truck, his hands tucked into his pockets, while Jack shuffles his weight, his suitcase in hand.
"You sure about this?" James asks, juggling his guestures between Jack and the airport entrance. Jack nods, at first uncertainly, but forcing his confidence forward, he nods a bit harder.
"Yeah. Yeah I can fix it. I just gotta talk to her. I gotta put the past aside and make everything ok." He recites his mantra aloud for the first time since he'd created it while lying awake last night. James nods, his eyes pinned on Jack's shoes.
"Ya know you're always welcome back, right?" He inquires, scuffing his own shoe into the pavement. Jack understood that James is offering a place if things go sour, but he hates the idea of having to come back here without her...
"No offense, but I really hope I dont need to take you up on that offer." Jack responds, his voice surprisingly even, desipte the doubt hiding behind it. James chuckles.
"Yeah, I hope you dont need to either." He says, a warm smile on his face. The two sit in silence a moment before James suddenly steps forward and tosses his arms around his friend.
"It was good tah see ya." James mumbles into the hug, clearly not wanting to show Jack the saddness clouding over him.
"It was good to see you too, man. I promise it wont be so long next time. Thanks again for letting me stay." Jack says, latching onto his friend with his free arm.
James nods, pulling away from the hug, attempting to regain his 'manly' attitude as he reaches over to tussle Jack's hair like a child.
"It was good catchin' up wit'cha." He chuckles at Jack as he futily attempts to fix his hair.
"Yeah it was." Jack tosses a playful punch at his friend's shoulder, and James rubs it as if he were severly damaged.
"Aye! Go easy on me will ya? I think you already got yer victory." He says, pointing at his bruised jaw.
"Dont be a bitch about it." Jack jests, a smile crawling across his lips.
"You pack a wallop ya do!" James exclaims in response.
"It didnt hurt." Jack replies easily, but the humor int lost.
"Like feckin' hell it didnt! Bloody bitch still be throbbin'!" James whines, rubbing his face with a pout.
"You're just a pansy." Jack chuckles alongside James. The two return to silence, and Jack turns to survey the door, finding himself eager to go through it, despite his qualms.
"I best be shovin' on." Jack says, not turning back to James for a moment. James nods again understandingly.
"Tell me how it goes?" James inquires.
"Will do. Thanks again man, I'll be seein' ya sooner than later." Jack says, backing his way to the door.
"I'll hold you too that." James shouts in response, climbing into the cab of his truck.
Jack spins to face the door in front of him, taking a steadying breath before swinging it open. (Y/N) here I come, he thinks to himself as he makes his way inside.
