Some comments on the final chapter got me thinking... this is the result. Hope you enjoy :)
Summer was finally here, which meant relaxation and fun times, pool sides and iced drinks. Logan sat in a lawn chair, a book in hand. The other three? Fooling around in the pool, a slashing war going on between them. Logan has no idea how Virgil had gotten involved in the mess, a second ago he seemed reluctant to join, the next he was wrapped up in this full on war. Logan has no doubt Roman has started it, only to lose.
Laughter was clear in the air, mixing with the lightness of the day. Logan has never actually gotten passed a paragraph in his book, watching his friends with a fond smile. Seeing the all happy, made him feel warm inside. Something he only really experienced with these three. This warmth of friendship.
It wasn't long before Roman climbed out of the pool, coming right over to Logan with a grin on his face. Logan instantly knew what that smile meant. "Roman, no. You better keep your distance I'm warning you now." Logan's words were useless. Roman came over, wrapping Logan in his wet arms. Logan cringed slightly feeling the water soak into his dry clothes. He quickly put the book down, not wanting to risk Roman dripping on it. Which turned out to be a huge mistake.
"And you just opened yourself up to opportunity." Roman said, picking Logan up. Logan instantly protested, now grabbing onto the other rather then leaning away. He kept repeating for Roman to put him down, knowing exactly what he planned on doing.
"You want me to put you down? Alright." Roman said before letting Logan drop into the water. Logan though, who still had a grip on Roman, pulled him in with him. It was lucky that Logan didn't have his phone on him.
"Not fair." Logan said, after he resurfaced, looking pointedly in Roman's direction as he grabbed his sinking glasses which had come off when he hit the water. "I don't know if you hadn't noticed but I am definitely not in what is considered to be appropriate swimwear."
Patton and Virgil were trying to contain their laughter, but failing miserably. Virgil was now sitting in the side of the pool, Patton floating around not too far away, close enough so they could talk comfortably. He looked at them, also glancing at Roman who made no attempt at hiding his laughter and weighed his options carefully. He attacked, slashing them with water at some attempt of getting them back, specifically Roman.
Another water war broke out. This one ending with unintentional teams. Patton and Logan vs Virgil and Roman. It was unclear as to who had won, so they decided to just call it a truce. Or at least everyone except Roman seemed okay with that. Roman went on to claim that he and Virgil were the rightful winners, but one meaningful look from Logan shut him up and had him agreeing with the others.
Logan climbed out of the pool, going to grab a towel from the pile on which they had brought out with them. He went to sit back in the lawn chair, only to find Roman now lounging in the spot that was once Logan's. He didn't say anything though, not bothering to complain.
"It's amazing really." Roman said, sitting up in the chair.
"What is?" Logan asked, raising an eyebrow at the other's words.
"Look at those two. The fact that they're not even soulmates. But they look so in love." Roman said. Logan turned to look at the two who were sitting side by side on the edge of the pool now. Patton kicking his feet, looking as if he were trying to make the biggest splash possible only using his feet. Virgil was smiling, for once looking totally at ease. It was almost as if for once he wasn't filled with the anxieties that weighed him down. And it was Patton who was able to make it go away, at least for a little bit.
"You do know that was Virgil's necklace right?" Logan said, not believing the other hadn't picked up on that. It was simple logic, which granted, Roman did seem to lack a lot of the time.
"Wait, really?" Roman sounded genuinely shocked. Logan for once had to try not to laugh at that.
"Yes, for one, there is no way Patton would have been matched up with someone so evil. I don't know if you had ever talked to Patton about it either, but he never played the game of hot and cold, even when he wore his necklace." Logan said, eyes never moving away from the two. "Plus you really must be blinder than I am of you can't see that the two were made for each other."
Roman seemed to be in a bit of a panic. How had he not noticed that? How had Logan noticed all this romantic stuff going on when he was the hopeless romantic, not Logan. He should have thought about it, or at least wished it true even despite not knowing. Logan eyes moved to look at him once again, but Roman didn't seem to notice.
"Do that know that? We've got to tell them." Roman said, moving to get up. Logan just shook his head though, placing a hand on the other's shoulder to keep him seated.
Logan glanced over at the two once again, a small smile on his face, watching the two laughing and practically curled up into each other's side.
It may have been unspoken but it was obvious.
"Trust me, they already know."
