"What the hell happened to your arm?" I was wearing a dress for school today and I hadn't yet put on my cardigan before my mom saw the bruises.
"Nothing," I lied turning away from her and grabbing my bagel from the toaster.
"Are you two fighting again?" I turned to look at her as she stared at me, hands on her hips.
"You're usually gone by now." Aimee walked into the kitchen. My eyes went to her and my mom turned to look at her shaking her head in disappointment.
"Violence is not the way to handle things." She scolded Aimee. "When you are kids, sure. But you'll be off to college next year." She now looked to the both us frowning. "Speaking of, have you girls started applying?" She lightened up now hopefully understanding that we knew our method was wrong, but it's what worked. Me and Aimee were fine now.
"I sent apps last year, so did Aimee." I pulled on my cardigan and took a bite out of my bagel. It was a blueberry one without cream cheese and just a little butter.
"Well you two just have to be on top of it. One of you has to go to Harvard." My mom smiled and it was maybe the first genuine smile I've seen her give in awhile. Must've been why she wasn't already out the door yet. "Oh and your father is coming by to have dinner with us tonight so you two need to be home."
"What?" My face twisted up confused and Aimee laughed.
"You're cooking? It's been a while mom. What's changed?" Aimee came over taking the half eaten bagel from my hands that were frozen. Mom and dad having dinner together? My mind wasn't wrapping around it.
"What do you mean Dads coming over for dinner? We-we haven't talked to him since he-" my eyes darted because I hadn't seen him physically since he left. He called but he never came to see us. The wounds were still fresh. He had only just left the middle of our sophomore year. They had a really big fight and the last time we saw him was the next day. He had made many promises before that, saying he'd still be there for us and such. His excuse was that he was too busy. He was always too busy.
"We've been talking and he's coming here tonight with his girlfriend." My moms face twitched at the last few words. "He wants us to meet her."
"A girlfriend?" Aimee laughed shaking her head. "You're serious?" Our mom shrugged and Aimee scoffed. "And you're okay with this?"
"I've gotten over it, as should you two. It's not healthy and I want him to be in your lives" she put her hands on her hips.
"It's a little too late for that." Aimee threw the rest of my bagel in the garbage and stormed out of the house.
"Come on Em!" She yelled at me and I looked back to mom baffled and shaking my head confused. She opened her mouth and shut it quickly not knowing what to say.
I followed Aimee out side and to her car. I threw my bag in the back seat and chewed at my lip anxious.
"I can't believe her." Her keys dangled between her fist as she shook her head drawing in her bottom lip. "She's absolutely fucking ridiculous."
I put in my seat belt sighing and Aimee hit the steering wheel with her fist angrily.
"We should ditch it." She turned to look at me like she just came up with the greatest idea ever. "Protest this stupid shit. He fucking lives five miles away from us!" She slammed her fist again and began to scream. I quickly grabbed her hand and squeezed it tightly. She looked to me with tears in her eyes.
"We'll ditch it."•••
It was hard to focus today but me and the girls had already forgotten that we had a half school day today. It was really a blessing in disguise. So we headed down to Riley's house once the bells rang. Her parents always kept the most food out of the rest of ours. Mainly because she had three brothers that ate like beasts.
"Which one of the three are home?" Kyla asked once we pulled up.
"You losers will get to flirt with Sean this afternoon." I could see her roll her eyes from the rear view mirror. "The other boys had to stay in school."
"I need about five minutes alone with him tops." Aimee said taking off her seat belt quickly. "I've had a rough week." She was the first to get out of the car, snatching up her bag and hurrying up the stairs. The rest of us laughed and grabbed all of our things.
Riley lived a neighborhood over from us that wasn't really that far from us but wasn't close walking distance either. Our parents knew one another so that's why we grew up together.
She had a decent sized house but having so many boys, it was hard to keep it cleaned. It wasn't terribly dirty by any means but there were always toys that needed to be moved out of the way and clothes towers lying by the bedrooms. The boys never did their chores and Riley wasn't any different. She was tough because of them. Fearless and athletic as well. She was all for roughhousing.
"Hey sis," Sean came down the stairs with his pants pulled down past his waist and his boxers clung against him. He was shirtless and his chest was wet with his sweat, dropping down his taunt torso. He had a towel around his neck to wipe himself down and I just had my eyes frozen onto his body. I wasn't the only one. The three of us had our jaws to the floor. I wasn't even able to meet his dark blue eyes. Her entire family had the same brown hair and blue eyes except their mother that had blonde hair. None of them got that trait.
"Geez put a shirt on." Riley groaned trudging towards the kitchen. The rest of us lingered for one last glance as he flashed his smile taking one more step. He was such a hunk.
"Hey girls." He said to us and we all gasped at the same time. I grabbed my heart because I could feel it being stabbed with cupids arrow.
"That's enough gawking!" Riley called from the kitchen and we snapped out of it. I started moving forward shaking myself out of that trance.
"Hey Sean could I talk to you?" I heard Aimee ask but I moved forward seeing Riley firing up the microwave.
"Time for snacks and tv." Kyla popped open a bag of chips and fell onto the dark grey L shaped couch.
"Emelie go grab my laptop please!" I didn't contest, I headed right up to her room. Her door was cracked and right down the hall. She had the biggest out of her siblings while their parents had the bedroom that was downstairs. I pushed open her door spotting her laptop on top of her pillow. Her blankets were on the floor and the rest of the pillows were spewed over the room.
I grabbed her laptop quickly and closed the door behind me. I moved forward one step hearing Aimee speaking softly. So I Crept up to the bedroom door seeing it was cracked and seeing my sister standing through the crack with her arms reached out to something. I maneuvered quietly to see who she was talking to knowing exactly who it was.
Sean was sitting on the edge of the bed and his arm reached out to her touching her waist, grabbing it tightly and pulling her towards him. She reached out touching his face and pulling him up to her kissing him deeply. He kissed her back hard, wrapping his arms securely around her body and holding her to him. It didn't look like the first time this had happened. They were all over each other like they knew one another that intimately. My jaw was now literally on the floor as I was frozen there watching them messily make out with other another. I couldn't move.
He broke their kiss and stood up from the bed holding her into his body and cupping her behind with his hand. Hers folded into him grabbing at his arms and body, feelings her way around him as if she hadn't done it in a long time. His lips connected with her neck roughly making her limp. I could now hear her moans fill the room and make me shiver in fear. Her hands fell over his pants grabbing him as he reacted knowingly, moaning against her. My eyes were locked on this moment and I couldn't shake away from it. I just couldn't stop watching this. I don't know what was keeping me there in that moment. Was I feeling jealousy? How confidently she kissed him and the intimacy they had with one another? She was skilled with how to get what she wanted, how to work her way around a mans mind and body. A siren calling to not only Trevor but to Aidan as well. She never had to ask... she just took it.
I was now wrapped up in my head, knowing the capabilities she had and I lacked. She always saw herself as lesser than me when I saw myself lesser than her. Somehow always comparing my image and confidence with her.
