We all fled the scene as the cops were called to the house.
The cops were called..
But we grabbed Trevor too. All of us running in fear of facing the cops. We only took Trevor with us because he had just assaulted someone.. someone who tried to assault me.
We went back to our house with Aimee driving Trevor's truck there even though she was drunk. We were all drunk.
"I think I broke my hand." Trevor leaned back in his seat holding his hand tightly. "I don't think I've ever hit someone that hard."
"You shouldn't have hit him!" Aimee scolded. "You should've let me."
"Who was he?" I asked quietly. They had given me a blanket like I was a victim. I fought back this time. I didn't let him.
"I don't know but we'll know by Monday. I'm going to kill that prick." Trevor growled and Aimee put her hand on his thigh to calm him as we pulled up to our house.
"I think the cops being called was a fib. I didn't see any cars as I was speeding here." Aimee scoffed pushing open the door. Trevor got out next helping me out.
"Are you okay Emelie?" He asked, the first time I had ever seen him concerned for me in a long while. He even grabbed my shoulder tightly with his good hand and squeezed being sincere when he had asked.
"Yeah," I tucked my hair behind my ear nodding to him trying to ignore my thoughts. "Nothing happened but I'm fine." I looked up into his hard eyes boring at me.
"I'm sorry my party wasn't as safe as I hoped." He softened his voice looking to me now with regret. "I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even worst enemy. I should've been patrolling and making sure no one was taken advantage of." He sounded as if he did that for every party. Preventing this from ever happening. This was the first time since the beginning of high school really that I had seen this softer side of him. The one I adored. The hero I crushed so hard on...
"Thanks Trevor really, you saved me." He gave a small smile and dropped his hand from my shoulder.
"I'm always looking out for you Em." He gave me a quick hug and we both walked inside.
I think we all passed out in Aimee's room. Me snuggling my sister and Trevor on the floor. I felt really safe I remembered. Two people looked out for me that night.•••
We all spent Sunday in recovery. I was so hungover that I couldn't leave my bed. Nor did Trevor or Aimee. Riley and Kyla joined us later with greasy food and tons of water for us to snack on.
Monday came and I began to feel better about myself. I had, until I saw Aidan before classes started. I tried to ignore him but he came up to me, stopping me at the locker.
"Can we talk about last week?" He asked putting his arm in the way so I couldn't walk away. "I guess I just didn't quite understand what happened."
"I told you to leave me alone. I don't want to proceed in a relationship with you Aidan." I looked away from his face licking my bottom lip as if the words zapped my tongue. They were bitter and brisk.
He scoffed and moved closer to me intimidatingly. I cowered. I felt like he would hurt me if he could. I didn't really know for sure about him.
"We should at least talk about this Emelie, please."
I looked down to him shaking my head saying, "I don't want to." Quietly which made him react violently by slamming his fist into the locker behind me, right by my head. My body shook with fear turning to look at his face. So confused and angry.
"Is there a problem here?" Mr.Holland came over looking to Aidan. "I think you should move along Mullins." Aidan removed his fist and stalked off without another word. I watched as he did feeling confused myself and realizing I had no idea what he was capable of. I didn't have the chance to see this side of him.
"Are you alright Emelie?" I turned to see his hand on my shoulder as I let out a breath, shaking myself from those thoughts. I looked up into his eyes and nodded.
"I'm fine, thanks." He nodded and walked on leaving me standing there watching after him. I didn't quite understand what was happening to us. After we kissed, he said to pretend it hadn't happened but since then I've noticed everything he did when he was near me. He was protective of me. He didn't want me to get hurt so I felt safe with him.
I headed to class, his class, clutching my bag tightly and hoping I'd be the first in the room, a moment alone with him. I was and he looked up when I walked up to his desk.
"Anything I can help you with Emelie?" He asked and my brows knit together.
"What is this?" I asked and his eyes shot up at me. He stood up straight and sighed giving a shrug.
"It's nothing and lets leave it at that." He pursed his lips together and looked towards the door.
"Alright." I was going to push it. Instead I went to sit in my seat watching him carefully as the bell rang. Students filled the room quickly and chattering. Most about the party on Saturday, how crazy it had been.
"I heard Trevor is going to fight that guy today."
"And risk everything? He'd get suspended."
"Rightfully so, did you hear what that creep did?" I looked forward trying not to listen anymore. Riley sat beside me with a sigh.
"I don't want to be here." She groaned putting her head on the desk.
"Trevor is going to fight that guy?" I asked and she sat right back up nodding.
"He said if he saw him he was going to knock him out again. Greg was his name I believe. A junior who's on the football team. Heard he's really cocky."
"Alright class! Enough chatter about the weekend, I'm sure it was fun and all but I hate to say it, it's Monday and we have to review the test." He quieted the classroom down just by speaking. Kids respected him. "We've had a lot of failing grades on this one so I will be offering a retake worth a thirty percent add on to your original grade. Extra credit to those of you that did well." He started walking around to hand back the test, most students sucking their teeth and shaking their head at their grades. I looked over to see Riley had gotten a seventy six on hers and she flipped it over quickly so I wouldn't see.
I was the last one to receive mine with also him saying, "Good job Emelie." as he passed by. I looked down to see I had gotten a one hundred percent on mine, along with a smiley face and a fantastic job stamp. I smiled a little to myself and turned the test over to see a small white posted note on the back. I pulled it off to see the words scribbled in cursive "We can talk after school."
I knew it was from him so I looked up seeing him talking to another student. I folded the note and put it in my jeans pocket hoping no one had saw. That was the last thing I needed but I felt all eyes were on us. Noticing something was going on between us. Riley already figured I was his favorite.. she noticed things when I hadn't.
I told myself that I'd drop it during school hours, pretend nothing had happened between us. That was the only way.
