Last Hurrah of youth

The carriage approached a single mansion like building, it was set up similarly like the fortama waiting house, with colourful tarps covering areas, a bonfire pit sat off to the side, it was clean looking and also filling up with various people and their pets, a dog was barking somewhere and the birds of prey were flying around their owner, even non pet owners were playing with pets.

Quix helped Goldy off of the carriage, while Tax dragged the suitcases off, as well as extra bags which carried any purchased souvenirs, Echo jumped off while Rebel sat at the back his legs dangling happily, a familiar person ran over, it was the wolf eared girl from the beginning, "hey!" She greeted, her down attitude seemed to have changed for a far more upbeat one, "uhh yo, sorry we never actually got each others names, I'm Quix" greeted Quix, "oh yea, Noelle," she said happily, her best friend followed up, a boy who looked lazy but very much eager to meet everyone, "hey, I'm Dune, sorry you didn't see much of me over at the waiting house, I just couldn't be bothered meeting anyone" apologised the boy, he had a chill grin and friendly eyes.

They talked about their fortama, Noelle and Dune had very big opinions on the bad moments and Quix and Tax had their opinions on the bad moments of the other two's, Goldy greeted any humans who wondered up, and soon she was joining a small group on a mission to bribe sweets off anyone, Echo watched his sister happily, before deciding to see Julius, who was more than happy to entertain the human with tickles.

Rebel becoming bored kept tugging on his leash until deciding to try and remove his collar, he effectively did so, after a lot of messing around and accidentally flicking the compartment that held the lock, he messed around a bit more and finally got something to click and properly let the collar swing off, it wasn't a badly designed collar, Quix just never learnt how to properly lock the compartment and Rebel had never tried before, he left the collar on the carriage and looked at the metal hoop the carriage leash was connected to, he examined the part where the leash connected to the hoop and tried removing it, the clip didn't move, so Rebel mimicked the process of clipping it on or off, using the same hand position, there was actually a secret button which the hand holds down while unlatching the clip and it came off the collar easily after a few tries, Rebel held his collar, not wanting to lose it, he had grown used to having it, even though he far preferred the harness collar.

Rebel began to look around, "Rebel!" Called Quix, Rebel glanced back and gave him a curious look before continuing on, Quix sighed, "is that a new human! Ooh so cute!" Exclaimed Noelle, Dune smiled softly, "he'll be fine there's nothing for ages around here, plus everyone else's pets seem loose" pointed out Dune, Quix made a noise, and helped Tax with the bags, "so sorry about this but I think we should get our beds, see you later on?" Said Quix with a frustrated but not rude tone, Tax looked around before sighing, "Goldy's over there" he said pointing to a small group of humans, Quix chuckled, "its gunna be real fun rounding them up" he groaned, Tax rolled his eyes at Quix's attitude, he knew his friend was just nervous for the end of fortama.

Dune and Noelle left not before telling them "if you need help with finding your humans just get us", and then they went to tell Julius that they had finished removing their stuff, they were more than happy to see Echo contently waiting for them, the blonde boy smiled up at them and showed them the handful of human gummies Julius had given him, they ruffled his hair and said their farewells to Julius, "I'm gunna really miss driving you guys around, anyway your new drivers will come around tomorrow, they'll take you to the place your belongings are and then to your respective towns to be trained into your new professions" explained Julius, the two didn't like having Julius leave but it was how it was, he held Echo tightly, before returning to his seat and waving at them, "goodluck, oh and who's taking Goldy and Echo?" Asked Julius as an after thought, Quix and Tax exchanged nervous glances, they hadn't thought of that "we haven't decided" muttered Tax, Julius nodded, before clicking the horses on to get moving.

Tax fitted Echo's backpack onto Echo's shoulders and harness, he examined the little human who he was so fond of, "can't you choose" whined Tax, Echo merely looked confused by the sad tone of voice.

They managed to score a small room with only two double beds and a bathroom, another pair had already claimed the other bed, but at least this would be less awkward and cramped.

After placing their stuff around their bed and removing Echo's bag, they decided to go the hunt for their humans, Echo followed along, they found Goldy first, she was sitting on the grass and chewing on some food, which she finished before Tax could ask her what it was, he lifted her up and spun her around happily, Rebel was surprisingly easy, he was playing a ball sport with another human, it looked around his age and seems to get along real well with their human.

After getting their humans to a private spot, they scolded the two for leaving like they did, Goldy wiped at her teary eyes, Tax was prevented by Quix from spoiling the girl, Rebel scuffed his heel into the ground, Quix put the collar back on him, Echo was busy watching the birds show off their power to a awestruck crowd.

The night seemed to approach quickly,  the sun was already at the horizon, everyone was around the bonfire, and luckily it was so big, or else it'd be real hard to see with so many around it lit up and roared into the darkening night, everyone whooped and cheered, some people were drinking alcohol, others had gotten over the powerful beverage, some were singing, dancing and making music while others sat and talked, this was the last moments they'd be considered youth, as soon as the sun rose in the morning they'd be acknowledged as adults.

Geo came out of nowhere to tackle Quix with a hug, Dune was to the rhythm while Noelle danced like a child, noone was being rude about her being a halfbreed, Geo's humans came up soon after, they happily greeted everyone, they were interested in Rebel most as he was someone they hadn't seen before, they all began talking about their year, Tax and Quix were eager to share their journey and Geo was happy to talk about his own.

Echo stared at the fire in amazement, he then glanced back noticing his owners were staring at him, he was confused by the attention, "I guess its a hard thing eh?" Asked Geo guiltily, he to had brought up that they would have to split up and separate their humans, "either way someone will be lonely" sighed Geo, he watched his girls get bored of Rebels simple answers and go talk to other humans, "you'll have Goldy I can tell that much" added Geo, Tax and Quix seemed confused by that, "I know that Rebel is wholly Quix's but Goldy belongs to the both of us" said Tax in confusion, "huh? But you're always with her" pointed out Geo, Tax shrugged, "no I'm always babying her, Quix and I talked about it a few weeks ago, apparently I need to let her gain some independence" chuckled Tax watching the young girl pull on Echo's arm and point to someone cooeing over them.

They were up all night, it was almost sunrise by the time they went to bed, they snuggled up on their blankets, the humans fell asleep on the grass, and none wanted to wake them.

Once the afternoon came, people began getting up, Quix and Tax sleepily got ready, they got their humans up to the room so that they could attach the backpacks and Quix even used the harness collar on Rebel, it was a very sluggish effort and the group headed out of the house, people were already lining up for their individual carriages, some would be picked up in two more days, the order of who was taken was reversed, as carriages came individuals said their final goodbyes to their groups and left, Quix was surprised as his name was called, he hugged Tax good bye and gave the two blonde humans tight hugs, but he needed to leave, so he led Rebel to the carriage, Goldy and Echo were surprised by this and tried calling Quix back but he was already being taken away.

Tax tried comforting the humans, they had taken Geo's advice, from the previous night Geo had told them "it would be best to take only Rebel, "Quix, ya see from what I heard about rescuers is that they keep the first few humans they save, as a way to continue the bond and encourage new arrivals to trust you, Rebel will have lots of company", the decision seemed made by that statement but it didn't mean that it had stopped it from hurting.
