Noor:

I was so excited!  We were on our way to the beach, which was only thirty minutes away.  I had never been to the beach here before.  Actually, I had never been to a beach anywhere before.  At the orphanage they couldn’t take just one of us.  Then the other hundred kids would want to go as well.  So this was my first time ever.  It was Sophia’s as well, and she seemed just as excited.

As soon as we parked, I jumped out of the car.  Sophia jumped out after me.  Jerry rolled down his window.  “Just call me when you’re ready for me to pick you up!” he shouted as we ran to the water. “And try not to get too wet! You don't have extra clothes with you!” he added.

“Okay Dad!” Sophia called. Then we both raced to the beach, kicking up sand as we went.

“Hey, look, there’s Allie. Come on!” she said, pulling me towards her group of friends. I stopped, digging her feet into the ground.

            “But-”

“We had a deal, remember?” she said.

“Okay, fine,” I said reluctantly after a moment. We went over and everyone started talking at once. I was just standing there, wondering what was going on.

“Hey guys, this is my sister, Noor!” Sophia said. Everyone turned and looked at me.

“Um...hi,” I said, waving at them awkwardly. As if I had said some magic password, everyone turned and began talking again. I scooted away slowly, and when I saw that no one was looking, I turned and quickly walked away. I looked around for Drew and Jazz but I couldn't spot them anywhere. I was wandering around looking for them when my phone vibrated. I took it out of my pocket and saw that I had a text message from Jasper.

            “Where are you?!?” he wrote.

“Why do you care?” I asked.

            “Just tell me!” he said.

“Im at the beach” I told him.

I hopped from rock to rock, wondering why he was asking. Maybe he thought I would somehow die at the beach. I snickered. The only way that I could die at a beach was if I...drowned. With a start, I hopped away from the water. Then I laughed at myself. I wasn't a clumsy person, so I wouldn't fall into the water and I would never go in to swim since I didn't know how to swim. The most I could do in water was stand in the super shallow part. So how could I drown? Just to be on the safe side though, I decided to stay away from the water.

“Hey Noor! I've been looking all over for you!”  A guy wearing all black made his way towards me. He looked familiar but I couldn't remember where I had seen him. Maybe he was in one of my classes. But I would have remembered him if he was. His hair was up in spikes, and the tips were dyed dark blue. His eyes were black pits. He looked like a cat killer.

“Do I know you?” I asked. I was sure I had seen him somewhere other than school.

“No, I just moved here,” he answered. “Why?”  He jumped up to a high rock and looked down at me.

“You just look so familiar...” I said.

“Really? You look so familiar to me too. I think I've met you before,” he said.
