Sophia

“Sophia!” Noor yelled, bursting through the door. I looked up startled. It was almost an hour after the soccer game had finished.

“Where were you?” I asked, putting aside my book.

“You wont believe what happened!” Noor said. She burst into the living room, and I noticed that she had been crying.

“What happened?”  I stood up in alarm.

“Jasper, and Drake, and he, they, they tried to kill me, and they were invisible, but then Drake tried to kill me and Jasper wasn't, and Jasper was trying to help me and-”

“Wait a second. Jasper tried to kill you?” I asked in confusion.

“Yes!” Noor said. “And Drake! But then Jasper didn't!” Before I could ask any more questions, Dad came into the room.

“Hey Noor. Where have you been?”

“Jerry, we need to go to the hospital right now!” Noor said, already dragging Dad to the door.

            “What? Why?” Dad asked.

“Drew’s hurt!” Noor yelled. “Now hurry up and get in the car!”  We hurried outside, and Dad started the car and started driving.

“Now can you please tell me what’s going on?” I asked Noor.

“I was helping Drew pack up after the game, and then I had to go to the bathroom, and before I went, the lights went out, so Drew gave me his phone as a flashlight. And then inside, someone came in the Emergency Exit and I thought it was Drake, but then it was Jasper, and he tried to kill me, but then Drew came and started fighting Jasper, but then Drake came and he pushed Drew into a wall and then they tried to kill me, and now Drew is hurt!” she said. I patted her shoulder comfortingly.

“I’m sure he’ll be okay. He just fell against a wall, right?” Noor nodded. “Then he will surely be okay,” I said. I just hoped that I was right.

When we got to the hospital, Noor ran to Drew’s room after finding out where he was located. About ten nurses yelled at her to slow down, and she almost crashed into an elderly man in a wheelchair. The old man put a hand to his heart and looked like he was about to have a heart attack. He probably was. I caught up to Noor as she stopped at Drew’s room in the hospital. There were two doctors next to him, looking at a big screen that I figured showed his heart rate. It seemed to be slowing down, and fast. Why weren’t they doing anything?

“Why aren’t you doing anything?!” Noor asked, reading my mind. The doctors jumped and looked startledly at her, then at me.

After a moment, one of the doctors spoke up. “There is nothing we can do. His brain damage is too severe. He seems to have hit his head very very hard. A portion of his skull broke, and his brain has been mixed around. Even if we got his heart to start again, he would be in a coma for the rest of his life.”

Noor and I stared in shock at the doctor, then at Drew’s still form, then at each other. Drew was probably going to die, right here, right now. Suddenly there was a loud, long beep.  I looked up at the screen showing Drew’s heart rate. There was just a long, straight line on the screen. One of the doctors pressed a button on the machine and the beeping stopped. I just stared at Drew’s still form in shock. Just earlier today, I had seen him playing soccer.  Now his lifeless body lay in the hospital bed. I wished I had gotten to know him better. He had literally died for Noor.
