Sophia:
“Just try it on!”
“No! I’ll wear it on the wedding, but not today!” Noor whined. I had been trying to get her to put on the dress she had gotten for the wedding as a bridesmaid for the past half an hour. She and I were both bridesmaids for Miranda, and I was extremely excited about it. I would get to wear a pretty dress, and stand in front of everyone. On the other hand, Noor was being picky about having to wear a dress. I rolled my eyes at her for about the hundredth time.
“But if you wear it on the day of the wedding, we wont know if it fits you! We have to get it tailored to your size before tomorrow!” I practically yelled at her. I was ready to rip all my hair out. Why did she have to be so impossible? Just one day wearing a dress, it wouldn’t hurt her, would it? The wedding was tomorrow, and things were being rushed, but Miranda and Jerry still managed to keep them under control.
Now, Noor sighed heavily. Then she looked at me for a few moments. I started to get uncomfortable under her stare. Then she spoke. “You really want me to wear it, don’t you? It would make you happy?” I nodded, unsure if she was really going to do what I thought she was gonna do. With that, she grabbed her dress from my hands and stalked off to her room. The dresses had been brought over by the professional tailor Miranda had hired, and the tailor was upstairs helping Miranda into all the pieces of the complicated dress. It turned out she had been saving a lot of money in case she ever got remarried, so this wedding had almost no budget. Half of her paycheck always went to the big wedding she had been planning for who knows how long.
I looked up to see Noor stomping down the stairs, followed by Miranda and the tailor, who was making last minute adjustments to Miranda’s dress. Noor almost tripped on her dress near the bottom of the stairs, but caught her balance.
“This dress is too long,” she moaned.
“Well then, I’ll make sure to cut it down a bit at the bottom,” the tailor said soothingly, as if she could sense Noor’s sour mood. Noor got to the bottom of the stairs and scowled at me.
“You better be happy.”
“I am! You look beautiful!” I gushed, and she did. The color of the dress fit her perfectly. I guessed in a way that meant it fit me perfectly as well, since we were twins. “Now if you just put on a bit of eyeliner...”
“No!” Noor barked, stepping away from me as if I would bite her. “Never! No no no no no!” She crossed her arms over the dark blue fabric of the dress.
“Fine, whatever,” I said, rolling my eyes once again.
“You should just be thankful she put on the dress,” Miranda said with a giggle. She had a point there. I had never thought I would see Noor in a dress. Just then there was a knock on the door. Miranda jumped out of her skin.
“No! Jerry can’t see my dress until tomorrow!” she nearly squealed, grabbing the bottom of her dress and running back up the stairs. Chuckling, the tailor followed after her. Noor and I stared between each other before she ran to the door to open it, almost tripping over her dress again. When she opened the door, I saw surprise and embarrassment written across her face.
