Zen walks out of the hospital and Cody waves goodbye to some nurses.
"I parked over here." Cody points to his right and Zen follows right behind him.
"Other than what happened three nights ago, did I miss anything else important?" Zen asks.
"No, not really. It's been pretty quiet since the attack and Max is already back at work." Cody sighs, "However, Max blames himself for everyone who died in the bar that night. He was the one who started the fight and got everyone dragged into it. He says that if he didn't get angry so fast then he would've been kidnapped without getting anyone hurt. Cana and I tried to talk to him but he's being his stubborn self."
"It's true his temper rises before his rationality. Did he say what got him mad?" Zen asks and Cody freezes.
He looks down at his feet and whispers, "The man he was fighting was someone from my past. I guess he told Max what he used to do to me."
Zen puts his hand on top of Cody's head, "Sorry." He says not knowing what else to say.
"It's okay. That part of my life is over. I'm safe now." Cody says and lifts up his head.
It was taking every part of him not to show a single tear as he smiles up at Zen, "We should get going. I still need to pick up Aaron from his job interview."
"Job interview?" Zen questions.
"Yeah, he's trying to get a job as a history teacher at an elementary school. He's really good with children." Cody chuckles.
Zen nods his head and Cody pulls a pair of keys out of his pocket. He unlocks the doors of a black pickup truck and opens the door for Zen. He climbs in and throws his black bag in the back seat. Cody climbs into the driver's seat and starts the truck.
"You still live at our old house, right?" Cody asks.
"Yeah, do you remember how to get there?" Zen questions.
"I remember the address and how it looked inside. How could I forget?" Cody smiles.
Cody drives out of the hospital parking lot and onto a highway. The car stays silent for a while before Cody's phone starts to ring and he reaches into his pocket. He answers and puts the phone up to his ear.
"What is it?" Cody asks.
"I can't find Max. He's not working today and he was supposed to be resting in my room but when I went back to check on him he was gone." Cana was panicking.
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can. Aaron is right down the street from your house, right now. Call him and I'll come within the next twenty minutes." Cody says and starts driving faster.
"Okay, thank you." She says and hangs up.
"What's wrong?" Zen asks.
"Max is missing and Cana is trying to find him." Cody answers.
"Then let's go right now. Why are you still driving to the house?" Zen questions.
"If something bad really did happen, then a fight could break out and you're in no condition to fight." Cody says.
"What? Hurry up to Cana's house! You think I'm just a drag or somethin?" Zen roars.
Cody slams on his breaks causing Zen the hit his head on the dashboard. Cody glares at him with an angered expression.
"Don't raise your voice at me." He growls, "You might be my father but I still don't look at you like one."
Zen glares at him and Cody starts to drive again. He turns onto a road with rows of houses down it and pulls into the driveway of the third house down. It was a long house with red bricks as pillars near the door. There was a small patio in front of the door with a rocking bench hanging from the ceiling.
