Chapter 43

Max dodges the blast of green acid before uppercutting the brown-haired guy in front of him. The guy stumbles back while grabbing his bleeding nose before getting stabbed in the back by Ash. The guy falls to the floor and gasps while grasping his blood filled shirt.

"You're as good as they say you are." Ash looks at Max and smirks.

"Can we just hurry? I'm pretty sure I'm going to get my ass kicked when I leave." He adjusts his hearing aids.

"Stop worrying about it. You guys are the stupid ones that got stuck here." He growls.

"Don't talk about my family like that!" Max grabs Ash's shirt.

He looks down and Max's hand then into his eyes with a cold glare, "Get your hand off me."

His deadly voice sent shivers down Max's spine but he kept his outside composure, "Tch, whatever, asshole."

He let him go and walked past him down the hall. He could feel Ash's eyes burning through the back of his head but he didn't want to show weakness.

"Sir!" A man runs up to Ash, "The kids are on the next story. Most of them are being held in one room but there are others in designated rooms."

"Find all the kids," Ash growls, "we need to get every last one of them out of here."

"I'll go with the big group of kids and keep them safe." Max speaks up.

Ash nods his head before looking back at the man, "Accompany Max, and do what we came for." He whispers the last part.

"Yes, sir." The man smirks and looks up at Max with his dark purple eyes, "Let's go."

"Name?" Max asks.

"Jean." The man nods his head with an eerie grin

They both run to a large staircase around the corner but get stopped with men at the top. They all fired down blasts of their powers but Jean puts his arms up and blocks the hits with a purple shockwave. He yells before throwing his hands forward making the shockwave crash into the people up top. They all fall to the ground and Max runs up the stairs before any of them could get up. He pulls out a gun and shoots all of the guys in the head.

"Keep going straight. I think it's the fifth door down." Jean says to Max.

He looks down the hall in front of him and stares down the fifth door. He runs to it and tries to open it but it was locked. He takes a step back before picking up his leg and kicking the door in. He opens it fully to see a group of kids huddled into one corner with fear all over their faces.

"I-It's okay," Max smiles at them, "You're all safe n-"

Within seconds everyone was screaming as the deafening sounds of gunshots filled the room. Max felt a pain in his leg that made him collapse and curl into a ball as bullet casings fell all around him. It was over in less than a minute and Max slowly looked back at the kids.

The bright color of red and piled bodies was all he could see. He looked up to Jean as he changed the magazine in his gun and aimed down at Max.

"W-...What is the hell are you doing?" Max stares at him in shock but soon becomes angry, "Are you fucking insane?" He yells.

"Do you ever shut up?" Ash scoffs and walks up behind Jean.

"What's going on? I thought you wanted to save these kids?" Max was shaking in anger.

"We did. We saved them by getting rid of them and freeing them from this hell." Ash smirks, "Thanks for the help but, we no longer need you."

Ash looks at Jean and nods before turning away. He leaves the room and Jean raises the gun at Max again. He lightly chuckles but before he could shoot a red beam goes through his head. He falls onto Max but he quickly pushes him off.
