Chapter 49

Cody sits down on the chair in the corner of Silver's office and buries his face in his hands. His cheeks were stained with tears and his eyes were red from crying.

Silver walks in and looks at Cody, "Hey, are you okay?"

"Why didn't you tell me what was going to happen? I wasn't ready for everyone to know what happened to me." Cody looks up at him.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know it was going to get that out of hand. That's another reason why I wanted you to leave." He tries to hug Cody but he gets up and moves out of the way.

"What about Corey? Why didn't you tell me he was going to be my backup?" Cody asks.

"He's only your back up until you come into power and chose your own. However, I recommend him only because he knows how the gang works. His grandfather was the one who put me into power when he passed."

"But he hates me. I don't trust him. I have a feeling that if he had the chance he wouldn't hesitate in getting rid of me." Cody feels his chest tighten up, "I-I.... as the next leader. I-I think it'd be better if I... g-go back to Axel." Silver opens his mouth but Cody cuts him off, "Think about it, Axel will leave everyone alone if he has me. I'm his only goal right now-"

Silver steps closer making Cody jolt and squeeze his eyes shut thinking he was going to hit him. Instead, he pulls him into a tight hug and shakes his head.

"Think about yourself, for once. For me, your safety is just as important as the gang. You may not think that but you need to start, you're going to have an entire gang to lead in and out of battles. I'm going to help you as much as I can but if anything is to happen to me then Russel will care for you. That man has seen 4 leaders in his lifetime and lately, I've been having the feeling you are going to be the 5th leader he sees."

"Don't say that! You are going to live a full life as a leader." Cody grips his shirt.

"I'm definitely going to try. I promise you that." Silver hugs him tighter.

A knock comes from the door and Silver let's go of Cody, "Come in."

Cody dries his eyes as Aaron walks in and rushes to him, "Is everything okay?"

Cody nods and looks up to him with shiny eyes, "I want to go home."

"Madori should be free in two days. The trial went.... okay but we just need to finalize all the paperwork." Silver walks up to Cody and rubs his back, "Please, take him home and let him rest."

Aaron nods and they both leave the room. They walk into the elevator alone and as it closes Aaron holds his hand. Cody leans his head against his shoulder and takes a relaxing deep breath. The elevator stops before they reach the last floor and opens to show Max and Cana.

"Oh thank god it's only you two." Cody smiles.

"What's wrong? Not having a good day?" Cana asks as they walk in.

"Just stressful. I couldn't stand that meeting." He groans, "It definitely didn't go the way I thought it would."

"But Madori was innocent, right?" Max asks.

"Yeah, but other topics were also brought up that I wasn't ready to share."

"I'm sorry, sweetie." Cana hugs him, "Are you guys busy tonight? Maybe we can all hang out.

"If you guys are okay with coming to our house? We worry about leaving Chat and Elizabeth alone." Cody says.

"I'm okay with that." Cana says and Max nods.

"So I'm guessing a movie night then?" Aaron smiles.

"Cana and I will stop at the store and get snacks." Max adds and everyone agrees.

The elevator reaches the last floor and they all walk out to their cars. Cody and Aaron get into the car and hold each other's hands as Aaron pulls out of the parking space. Cody could feel his body getting heavy and his eyes started to feel like weights. Before he knew it he had fallen asleep.

"Cody~, come out come out." Alfredo sings as he walks around his room.

Cody was holding his breath as he stayed behind the bookshelf. Alfredo opens the closet doors and Cody uses the time to run to the door. He swings it open and runs out into the hallway with tears falling down his face.

He could hear yelling behind him but he was too scared to even listen. He started to shake when he had no idea where to go but the pressure of getting out of there was eating at him. He runs into a random room and shuts the door hoping no one saw him.

He backs up as he grips his chest but trips over something big. The lights turn on and show Aaron on the floor with a pool of blood around him. Cody freezes and stares at him with a shaky voice. Hands come from behind him grabbing a fist full of hair and another wrapping around his neck.

"Look what you did. This is your fault." It was Cody's voice but the figure was completely black, "Kill yourself."

The grip around Cody's neck gets tighter and he starts to try and break free.

"Kill yourself before you kill others. Aaron's going to die because of you! You hear me?" The figure screams, "You! It's going to be your fault! All Cody's fault! Cody-!"

"Cody!" Aaron yells making him wake up and start yelling more.

"No! No! No! Stop!" Cody cries and covers his ears.

"Cody!" Aaron grabs his hand snapping Cody out of his nightmare. 

He looks at him and stares down at his feet, "I'm sorry, that just felt so real."

"Will told me what happened this morning. Why won't you tell me the truth? Please, talk to me. I don't like being left in the dark and you know that."

Cody sighs and runs his shaking hand through his hair, "I wish I knew what was happening. I feel like I'm going insane. I keep having this... inner voice constantly yelling and screaming at me. It tells me I was better off alone. That I'm only putting people in danger. I try not to listen but I start believing what it says."

Shut up. Stop talking.

"There it is again. It's telling me to shut up." Cody starts crying.

Aaron watches him put his head down but he had an odd feeling. He reached under the seat and pulled out iron handcuffs.

You idiot. He's not saying anything because he hates you now. Good job ruining your life. Die. You good for noth-

The voice stops as Aaron puts the iron on Cody's hand making him look at the iron.

"I-It stopped." Cody says in disbelief.

Aaron sighs in relief, "You aren't crazy. Someone is fucking with your head and I bet it's someone serving Axel. They're making you hallucinate and keep telling you shit."

Cody slams his head into the dashboard and yells, "I'm tired of this! I want this all to fucking end! Screw all of them! I want every last one of them dead!"

Aaron turns Cody's chin to him and gently kisses him.

"I want to protect you. Please, let me do that. I will help you with anything you want to do but no matter what I promise to get you out of anything dangerous you put yourself into."

"Thank you, Aaron." Cody rubs his eyes, "Thank you for everything."
