It had been five days since Will had told Mike they couldn't be friends anymore. He'd spent them at home, telling his friends he had the flu, but Mike knew the real reason why he'd stayed home. Mike hadn't really left home a lot, for he was too sad to do anything, but he had to act normal in front of his friends. Max was a little suspicious, but she didn't ask anything because she thought that whatever it was, they needed to solve it themselves.
That fifth day, Will was at home eating some soup for lunch when he heard a loud car park in front of his house and some knocks on the door. Joyce opened the door and Max stormed in without even saying hi, and she looked like she was in a rush.
"Will. You don't have the flu and my brother will kill me if I don't go back into the car within the next minute. Come to the mall. Dustin, Lucas, you, and me." she said, and Will got up without even thinking. Mike wasn't coming, so why not go? "Yes, you can go" Joyce said, even though Will hadn't asked, while his son entered Billy's car.
When they got to the mall, Lucas and Dustin were already there. "Dude, I thought you had the flu!" Lucas exclaimed, when he saw Will. "Not anymore" Max answered for him, while kissing Lucas sweetly. Dustin and Will instantly looked at each other. These months, they had been the only single ones in the party, so they always felt like the third wheel, and that had made them be closer than ever. Now, whenever Lumax or Mileven shared a cute moment, they would look at each other like "ew".
They all started walking around, making jokes. Will felt comfortable with his friends and he actually let himself forget the pain he was feeling for a while. "Does someone feel like ice cream?" Dustin suddenly asked, and they all walked to Scoops Ahoy. They all got their ice creams and they were gonna seat on a table by a window when-
"Aren't those Mike and Jane?" Lucas asked, and Will choked. What?! "No. Jane is still in the city" Max replied, without even looking. "No, it's actually her!" Dustin said, getting up and walking to them. Lucas and Max followed him, but Will didn't move one inch. He wasn't ready to face Mike yet.
"Will! Come!" Max said, from the table, and Will knew he had no choice. He got up and walked to them. "Hello, Will!" Jane exclaimed, hugging him, as he sat down next to her. Will hugged her back and smiled.
"I thought you were at the city?" Will asked, and he instantly regretted his tone, but Jane didn't seem to notice. "I asked Hopper to come back earlier. I missed you guys too much!" she said, and she kissed Mike. Will instantly looked away and met Max's eyes. What? He mouthed, and she shook her head like saying, "nothing."
"I thought you had the flu?" Mike suddenly asked, and everyone was surprised by his harsh tone. "Well I'm better now, thanks for asking" Will replied. Dustin and Lucas looked at each other. Mike and Will had never ever been mad at each other before. What had happened?
Max quickly started a conversation to kill the awkwardness between Mike and Will and everyone talked, except for Will. He felt like Mike was suddenly his enemy or even worse, a stranger. He knew he had been the one that had broken their friendship, but why did Mike suddenly hate him? If he had truly loved him, he couldn't suddenly hate him, could he? Does that mean he's never truly loved him?
Will knew he was overthinking, but he couldn't help it. He missed his best friend so much. He wanted to go back to when they were both in kindergarten and didn't know anything about love or relationships. But he couldn't. the damage was done, the words he'd said could never be taken back.

"Will. I'm sleeping at your place today. We have some talking to do" Max said, in Billy's car on their way back home. "Uh... okay" Will replied, because he knew it was no use to say no. "Killing In The Name Of" was playing (this song is from 1992 but I give no fucks) and Will was shyly dancing to it. Max laughed when she saw him, but Billy just rolled his eyes, which caused him to become shy and stop dancing.
They stopped by the Mayfield's so Max could get some clothes for the sleepover. "Hi, mum" Max said to her mum, who was talking with her stepdad. "I'm sleeping at Will's today" she announced, walking past her and to her room.
"Will? Is that a new girl? Her name doesn't sound familiar" her mum replied, but Max was too busy getting her stuff to notice she'd referred to Will like he was a girl. "Nope," she yelled back. "Well, um, have fun, and-" her mum tried to say, but Max closed the door behind her, walking to the car where Will and Billy were awkwardly listening to Guns N Roses, a new group that Billy already loved.
"Let's go," Max said, entering the car, and his brother started the machine.

"It was amazing to see everyone again!" Jane squealed in excitement, and Mike smiled lightly. "You sound like you haven't seen them in years" he replied. "It felt like years! Especially with you. I missed you so much" she said, and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
They were in Mike's bedroom, with the door open because of his mum's orders, enjoying some cuddling, but Mike's mind was somewhere else and she knew it. Jane didn't want to ask because he didn't look like he felt like talking about it, but she couldn't resist seeing her boyfriend sad like this.
"Hey, what's up with you?" she suddenly asked. "What do you mean? I'm okay" Mike replied. "No, you're not. You're sad. I can see it" the girl replied. "Nope. Not at all. I'm just happy I'm back with my girlfriend again," he lied. Jane suddenly pouted.
"What?" Mike laughed, hugging her tightly. "Why are you lying to me?" Mike sighed. They're still talking about that? "I'm not. I'm just fine." He replied, in a pissed voice. "You're not. Your voice sounded angry."
"That's because you're pissing me off" Mike said, and Jane teared up. "I'm your girlfriend. You shouldn't lie to me because-" Jane started again, but Mike interrupted her.
"Oh my god will you please shut up already! Haven't you thought that maybe I don't want to talk about it?! Just because you're my girlfriend doesn't mean I have to tell everything to you! You're not the owner of me!" Mike yelled, and Jane couldn't be more surprised. Mike had just screamed at her.
"Uh, I think Hopper told me I should practice some Math today," Jane said, getting up. She didn't feel like being with Mike anymore. "Don't be silly. You have no way of getting back home," Mike replied. He felt bad for making her sad, but he was still pissed. "I'll walk" Jane muttered, leaving.
Mike sighed. First he loses Will, now he loses Jane. God how he missed Will. He was always there for him. He thought of the first day of kindergarten in the swings, or in class one day, painting each other's hands... he then decided that Will was not gonna leave so easily. He was his best friend and he wanted him back. He didn't even have a say in them stopping being friends. Will had just said so and it had all ended. Well, it was not gonna be like this. Mike Wheeler is a fighter and he fights for those who he loves.
He got up and rushed downstairs, running past his mum screaming, "Bye mom! I'm going to Will's! I'll be back soon!" He didn't even notice Jane in the living room, calling Hopper on the phone. He just hopped on his bike.
