Iris' POV

'You're going to be my secretary...'

'My secretary...'

I'm going to be a secretary.

His secretary.

Cale's secretary.

Is this really happening? Me working for Thompson Group of Company? Is this something I should be happy about? Or something I should be worried of? Well, if this is Cale's way of having closure then I won't have it. It had been way too long.

Girl, you're overthinking. He was being professional. My subconscious spoke out of my brain yet again. But she might be right. Maybe I am just overthinking and maybe Cale really was just being the professional that he is.

I just never had this thought in my head that Cale and I would cross paths again. And now that we had, I was in shock. I wasn't prepared. Out of all circumstances, it really had to be this, doesn't it? Me being unemployed and jumping onto my ex's company that I never even thought he would have. I had actually thought of him before to be in some band because I knew he loved singing.

Maybe that's what they call unexpected fate.

I took a sip of probably my third cup of black coffee for the night. Wearing my oversized shirt and sweatshorts I walked to the living room where Iver was watching cartoons.

"Iver, baby, you know you need to sleep now."

He was lying on his Lightning McQueen comforter as he nibbled on his biscuits. I sat beside him and combed his hair with my fingers.

"Can I have a few more minutes, mommy Iris? It isn't finished yet." He said pertaining to the show that I figured to be Peppa pig.

"Alright. We'll sleep after Peppa, okay? You still have school tomorrow." Luckily, Iver's school time is the same as the time that "Cale gave me for tomorrow. I just have to wake up extra early so I could get everything ready.

It was only 8 in the evening but all that's happened the whole day surely made me tired.

Seeing Cale after years, made you tired? My subconscious just had to say that, doesn't she?

I was currently composing a text to my mom when I heard a knock on the door.

Who could it be? I'm not one to be visited at this kind of hour.

And then suddenly a thought came up. What if it's Olivia again? I stood up from the rugged floor and already thinking of words to say. But when I looked at my peep hole, I was just too delighted to see Marcus.

"Marcus, what a surprise."

"Yeah, sorry. Did I interrupt you?"

"No, ofcourse not. Come in."

Marcus has been one of my treasured friends back in college and more often than not, people mistakenly thought that we're a couple. It's a funny thing though. I don't see Marcus as something close to being a boyfriend. Yes, his looks are to die for, he has the body, a good sense of humor, he's nice, he's smart and all but, I only see him as a friend. And I know Marcus feels the same way. Just friends.
