Betty's POV:
I woke up early the next morning to go see Jughead. I told my mom I was going to school earlier to work at the Blue and Gold. I climbed up the ladder and walked in to see Jughead still asleep.
"Jug," I said gently shaking him, "Wake up, we have to go to school."
He stirred and finally woke up, "Oh.. hey Betty."
"Hi." I replied smiling at him.
I let him get ready and we started walking to school. Jughead looked uncomfortable, "You alright, Jug?" I asked him.
"I look a wreck, with the black eye, but that's not the issue. You can't tell anybody about what happened, Betty. I can't have anyone knowing. It's going to hurt me. I'm already enough of an outsider."
"I promise, Jug. But, I'm worried about you." I said to him.
He chuckled, "Remember a week ago you hated me, and didn't even care about me."
"Yeah, but things have changed. I care a lot about you, you're my best friend." I said to him.
He smiled and looked to the side. We walked into school and went our separate paths. I walked down the hallway and I found Veronica at her locker.
"Hey V, I have something to tell you." I said and she turned around from her locker. Her lipstick was smudged and her hair was all messed up.
"Veronica?" I asked her. I turned around to see who she was looking at behind me. It was Archie and he had lip stick all over his lips.
"Betty... it's not what it looks like" Veronica said grabbing my hand.
I put my hand out of her grasp and didn't say anything, I just walked away. I walked into the bathroom and cried. I cried in the bathroom
for two class periods.
Once it was lunch time, I grabbed my stuff and went to the cafeteria. I saw the table where I usually sat at with Archie and Veronica. But then I saw Jughead. Sitting at his usual table in the corner reading a book. I went over to his table and sat across from him. He looked up at me and raised an eyebrow.
"Things happened with Veronica and Archie, and honestly I would rather be by you then by them." I said.
"Just so you know, you're gonna get a lot of dirty looks from sitting with the loner, outsider kid." he replied, and grabbed one of my french fries.
"I don't care. I'd rather get dirty looks than be with my fake friends."
"Wow, what happened if you don't mind me asking?" he asked.
"Veronica and Archie kissed... or should I say had a make out session, when she knows I like Archie and was rejected by him yesterday."
He was silent for a little, "Oh, don't worry about it, you have me."he replied and smiled at me. I smiled back at him.
I looked over that their table and sighed. The whole time we sat there, Jughead read his book. The bell rang 30 minutes later and Jughead and I went out into the hallway.
"Blue and Gold after school? I can go over the basics and get you officially in." I said to him. He nodded and we both went to class.
All day I avoided Archie and Veronica. I was still mad at them, but mostly upset. Disappointed that my best friend would do that to me. I sighed and went to Principal Wetherbee.
"I was wondering if Jughead Jones could join the Blue and Gold with me." I said to him.
Principal Wetherbee nodded and told me he could. After school, Jughead walked in, "Okay, so this is where we print, this is the computer, pretty simple of course." As I was explaining things to Jughead, he nodded his head every once in a while and in about an hour we were done.
We walked home and Jughead went off to the treehouse, "Don't go home Jughead Jones!" I called after him, and I walked into my house.
"Elizabeth Cooper, would you like to explain why you weren't at school for two classes today?" my mom asked me as I walked into the kitchen.
"Something happened at school and I was upset." I replied to her.
"You're ridiculous! This isn't happening ever again. Am I clear?" she replied angrily.
I nodded and she went up to her room and slammed the door. I just rolled my eyes and went to go find Jughead. On my way there, I noticed that when something goes bad in my life, I went to Jughead. It felt better this way, but before I could get any closer to the woods behind Archie's house, I was stopped by Archie.
"Can we talk... inside?" he asked me. I looked at him confused, "No, Arch." I simply replied.
"Please, Veronica and I are at my house and we feel really bad." he said to me. I finally gave in and walked inside Archie's.
"Hi B." Veronica says, "Listen, we're so sorry, we just have noticed how much we love each other today." I didn't know what to say. They're my best friends.
"It's fine, you two look happy anyways." I said. I was over Archie. It was just a silly crush anyways. Plus, I wanted them to be happy, that's always something I wanted.
"Okay, I should go, my mom wants me home to help clean. I'll see you guys tomorrow at school." I said.
Veronica came and gave me a hug before I left and I ran to the treehouse. I climbed up the ladder and went inside. Jughead wasn't there. "Jug?" I whispered. No response.
I grabbed my phone and texted him:
B: I told you to not go back to that house!
J: I don't have a choice.
B: Leave the house now before something happens to you.
J: I will once he falls asleep. Go home, I'll text you when I'm there.
I didn't want to go home to my mom, so I stayed in the treehouse till Jughead came back.
"Betty.. you scared me." he said once he got inside.
"He didn't do anything to you right?" I asked him.
"No, thank god." he replied. He sat down on the couch next to me and sighed.
"What's wrong with you? You look like a sad puppy." he asked me.
"My mom. I skipped two classes today because I was upset and the school called her. I told her I was upset, but she doesn't care. That's the thing, Jug. No one cares. No one cares what I think on things, no one cares on how I feel, and no one cares if I just left town. No one would notice." I vented to him.
He grabbed my hands and rubbed his thumb over my knuckles, "I care. I care a lot about you. You've helped me through so much. Ignore your mom. She thinks what's she's doing is the best for you, but you just have to learn to ignore her. Ignore all the negativity in your life. But, Betty Cooper, I do care a lot about you." He said softly.
I looked up at him with tears in my eyes. I was speechless.
His words made me realize something, I love Jughead Jones.
