Chapter 2

We walked about a kilometre until we reached the house.It was built of brick and poles and had a thatched roof.It was beautiful.Something out of a resort magazine.It extended into an LShape that seemed to disappear somewere in the vast greenland."This island is breathtaking"I said as i held on to my hat which was being blown away by the wind."I know,its only a beautiful place until the rains come but the locals have found ways to survive.I will explain more when we are settled."Akiliz replied.He knocked on the door and a short and curvy woman opened the door with a warm smile."Aki welcome.We have been expecting you."She said as they embraced each other.I waved anxiously when the womans attention diverted to me."Uma this is Coriel.My scientist friend i spoke to you about."He said.She smiled and offered me a hand."Welcome ,please please come inside the house.Im very pleased youre here.Rarely we have visitors.".We entered the house.I could only describe the inside as expensive simplicity.The dinner table was laid out with all sorts of seafood.I had never seen such in my whole life.I could already imagine the running stomach i was going to have in the morning after having all of this food.Uma could see my excitement."Please dig in before you go to rest.I wasnt sure what you would prefer so i made a variety.These are all fresh from our water"she said.I pulled the chair closer to the table."Uma you have blessed hands.I dont know where to start"I said."Most would start with Mussels.Quite flavourful and Uma does magic with them"a deep voice said.I looked up as the hunky caramel skinned and half dressed man walked into the room.I could not chock.Those abs.It was illegal to be shirtless with such a body.I picked a plate and started to serve food.I had a few seconds to gather myself or I would humiliate myself."Chris big bro".Akiliz stood up and the two men jumped on each other.I sat there quietly trying to comprehend how God could create such a handsome and yummy looking man.He walked up to me.His scent was masculine and sweaty.Hard day at work type of sweat but still it filled my nostrils and i felt like i could jump on him and tell him to finish the day on me.Compose yourself.This has to be Uma's husband."Hello there"i managed to say.He shook my hand."Welcome to our home,its a pleasure always for us to have company"he said."Thanks to you guys.I feel too honored.The food the space.Im still in awe" i said honestly.He dismissed himself to go and get ready for dinner.I envied Uma.Such a beautiful life.No wonder she was all smiles.I could only imagine if this guy took off his pants any woman would have a smile like that.We finished up dinner and i was shown to my room.My fear of wood creatures had me thinking i wouldnt last more than a day here ,the place and furniture was all wood and the room smelled of dampness.The rains i could imagine.My passion i reminded myself.I would get used to it.Uma had gone to maximum efforts to put new sheets and everything looked clean.I sat on the bed and breathed deeply.There was a knock on the door."Come in"I said.Two gentlemen walked in.It was Akiliz and Chris."Hey"i greeted them.Chris now had a sweater on.His body was looking even buffer.He was tall.God why was i looking at someones husband."Okay so this place has a few rules that will get you through the night.I havent been around for a while so Chris will help you out.I need to go and get ready for the rain as well."Aki said.I smiled and nodded as he left."Well firstly i should say youre brave to come here.Most people wouldnt try"Chris said taking a seat on the wooden stool."Why"i asked as if demanding answers."Well this is a sacred island.A lot happens at night.Most people who have come here unaware have not made it through the night"he said."What happens to them?"i asked."The water,the rain,it takes them away".he said.That frightened me.How could water take people.He smiled.i gulped."Dont be scared.It does not happen a lot,please burn this sage before you sleep.Do not sleep in white garments and do not step out without company.My room is down the hall so if you need anything please dont hesitate to come."he said."Well thank you.I will burn the sage and i sleep with no clothes on"I said.Crap.That had sounded flirty.I had said it from
the top of my head and hearing myself say it.He smiled."Dont let the bed bugs bite"He stood up and left the room.The door closed."I sleep with no clothes on"i said mimicking myself.I was stupid.I turned on my laptop.I was going to do some research on this place.Surprisingly most articles spoke of a presence in the water and that no one had lived to tell the tale.Those who lived either went mad or got into depression but no one really stated what it was exactly that was in the water.Drops of water started falling.I breathed in deeply as i got a chill.It was here.The rain.I stood up and found a box of matches.I lit my sage.It felt peaceful.I resumed my research."The Mamiwatha",i read out loud as the article went on to explain the presence of a water spirit that was responsible for the rain.I got chills and closed my laptop.I would surely finish this in the morning.I was a bit tired.I resorted to sleeping it away.
