Akiliz tip toed into the room and found Uma lying on her bed naked.She looked so at peace as she hummed a song to herself with her eyes closed.Akiliz jumped on the bed and before Uma could scream he had her hand covering her mouth.Uma breathed when he finally let go.They embraced and kissed deeply."Is he gone?"she asked."He is but we wont be long.Im saving myself for the rest of our lives.I want to take you away with me.You wont ever have to live in this place again."he said exploring her body with his bare finger.She looked fruastrated."How do you plan on doing this Akil,I mean we will wake up gone and then what.You think Chris is stupid.?"She asked."No youll go tonight,i will send for someone to pick you.So he will wake up and boom youre gone.I will offer to look for you and boom im gone.They will never know".Uma scoffed."Thats ridiculous.Can you hear yourself right now.Even i cant believe you.Listen Akil im not asking for all that.Just make me feel good.Make me feel like a woman again.You dont have to take me away "she said attempting to take off Akil's clothes.He closed his eyes when she bit his neck but he had to stop himself.This was his brothers wife.She had made these advances for a long time and his excuse always remained the same."I will take you away first then take you down".He thought eventually she would give up or rather get bored of persuing him or maybe his brother would lay her and she would shut up.Clearly she was not going to stop anytime soon.

"Is this place all your life will be"i asked Chris as i followed him."No i was going to have some kids to brighten up this place but yes this is all i ever dreamed of. An easy life.No work.No rules.Just a lot of peace until i grown old and gray with the person i love."Chris said as if he had not yet met the person he loved.He sounded so deep and old at heart.Why didnt Uma see this good man for what he was.If he wasnt the man she fell for.I didnt know what else she could have fallen for."And you Coriel,your love life?If you dont mind me asking.I sighed."This is as exciting as my love life goes,no man sticks around for mermaid stories or anything weird of that sort.It scares people away and ive stopped caring"i said."They dont know what a gem you are".I simply smiled.He had all the sweet words to say."A few minutes later we had reached an old womans house.She had long shining silver her that almost reached her legs and she was brushing it as she sat on a rock on the side of her house.She looked like a being out of water herself."Christopher.You get handsome by the day."she said to him.He smiled shyly."Its the land Grandma Erica,its the land"he said."Oh come on,Erica for you,Now tell me who is this beautiful young lady.She glows like the morning sun,beautiful one come sit here."she beckoned me.I looked at Chris.How rude of him to not respond to her questions.He just stood there right before the lady interrupted my thoughts,literally."Coriel what an adventurous one."she said.Obviously Chris had told her about me before hand.She knew what i was here for."Of cos i know what youre here for"she said.Was she reading my mind.I looked at her and she continued to speak."If our gifts could save the world then there wouldnt be any famine or hunger or the worst disease of all time,lack of knowledge.It makes me happy to see such a young soul seeking answers and questioning the way of life.But the real question is.Are you ready for the truth.The truth can change your life.Are you ready for that change"she asked sharply i felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand.She was speaking in riddles.I looked Chris.I was puzzled.She got in a trance.Her eyes rolled to the back of her head exposing the white part.I looked at Chris shaken,his gaze was on the ground.He was still as if avoiding contact or rather he was doing it out of respect.I looked away too."Rice,wine and some brown coins"the lady said.I looked up she was back to normal."Thats what we will need.Come back after two rains and i will help you.You seek to be in touch with her dont you.You seek her face."she said."Thank you"Chris said.I followed him as he walked back fast towards home.He broke the silence finally."She wants to do an appeasing ritual.She is already with you but you have to calm her so she doesnt harm you.That way she can show herself to you and start guiding you"he said.I breathed deeply."Does this happen with everyone?"i asked obviously puzzled."It happened to grandmother Erica.She got in contact and now she bears the gifts of the water.She sees our world with the eyes of the blessed.She sees what we we do not see but there is a downside to it"he said."There is always a catch isnt there"i responded."Yes and hers is that she bares the burden only by herself.She can never find a lasting love.Her gifts bind her to a life of solitude because if she were to love she would see too much.She would see into the soul of the person she loves and that my dear is very unnatural."he said."I dont want that.I really dont."i said.I had not come here to be bound by anything."Coriel this is exactly what i mean.Your passion will cost you.The sacrifices that you have to make are insane.You think youre the first outsider to come here and try to unlock the secrets of our place.Its a secret,and if should remain that way unless youre willing to give your life for the knowledge"he said sounding serious.It sent a shiver down my spine.He was warning me,which only made me question everything more.These people were hiding the secrets of their land and by all costs they would make sure no outsider would get as close as to expose their simple and yet dark life.I could sense i was walking into either danger or exactly what i was looking for."Lets just go home and i will think about all this.Maybe ive got enough information."i said.He was quiet.
