Dread filled Zane as he woke up to sunlight streaming in from the large windows, groaning as he forced himself out of bed.

His misery eased as he realised it was a Saturday, which meant he wasn't due for school, not yet at least.

"Get up already!" Calista complained, bursting through his bedroom as if it was hers, and it annoyed Zane to no end.

"What are you doing here?" Zane rolled his eyes as his little sister went up the stairs with her head held high.

"Your friend is downstairs. He's in the grand foyer with Mother right now." Calista smiled smugly, almost as if she had actually accomplished anything.

"Why are you even smiling like that? What do you get from this?" Zane frowned, and Calista's smile fell for a moment, before she left the room in a huff.

Zane took his time to get ready, throwing on a black shirt and skinny jeans, anxiety crawling up as he neared the end of the staircase.

He forced a smile as he walked in, taking sight of another boy with platinum blond hair, and equally striking blue eyes.

"Leo?" The boy turned around, frowning as he took in every little detail of Zane, before his frown dropped into a loose grin.

"Zane! Been a while, huh." They hugged for a moment, and Zane couldn't help but smile as he relived every memory he had with his best friend.

"So Valencia was the mysterious place you were moving to? Not too bad, but clearly, everyone here is loaded." Leo snickered and led Zane away, after receiving a nod of approval from both mothers.

"Well, so are you. I'm gonna take you out around the city, but you might want to change if you plan on getting respect." Leo raised an eyebrow as he gave Zane a once-over.

"Expensive taste?" Zane asked, knowing look automatically taking place as he looked at Leo's light blue blazer and white dress pants, with a white inner shirt.

"Quite. They don't take easy to outsiders dressed down." Zane rolled his eyes but went upstairs, changing into a a black turtleneck and off-white dress pants with an off-white blazer.

Zane went out of his room and faced Leo's judgement, who hummed in approval.

"That's better." Leo said, leading Zane outside.

"Is it always this harsh winter in Valencia?" Leo halted, facing Zane with a pained expression.

"Yes. I hope the cold doesn't bother you?" Leo asked, his tension easing as Zane shook his head.

They both stepped into their own rides, Zane's Audi trailing behind Leo's Maserati as they took to the streets, cold winter air whirling past as they drove into the city.

"Welcome to Central Valencia." Leo said, with a proud smile Zane would never thought he would see when it came to Leo and cities.

"Impressive." Zane commented, as they passed shop after shop, all rather grand for his taste.

"You prefer simplicity, I see." Leo said after a while, after Zane had declined everything that was offered to him.

"I find it my greatest pleasure when I gain new skills, not exactly retail therapy." Zane answered, as he started noticing how everyone would take glances.

"Valencia has always been a rather tight city, they don't usually receive new-comers." Leo informed, as soon as he saw Zane's discomfort at the attention.

"Come on. I invited two people to meet you today, ease the whole school process." Zane nodded, following Leo into a well hidden cafe, where all the noise seemed to dull, as if they had stepped into a  bubble of silence.

"Leo! I assume this is Zane." A girl with blonde hair beamed, giving Leo a short hug before smiling at Zane.

Another girl remained seated, midnight black hair in a twisted crown braid, regality surrounding her as she kept her hands loosely clasped on her lap.

Though her aura was one of his questions, Zane couldn't help but find himself captivated by her stormy grey eyes, as if they commanded attention.

And obey he did.

"This is Ailani, she was my first friend in Valencia, and she's been my friend ever since." Leo gestured to the blonde girl with a rather fond smile, and she returned it with a shy smile.

"This is my best friend, Riyalin. She's hard to approach, but once you do, she's an amazing friend." Ailani gently put a hand on Riyalin, and she looked up, restraint set aside as she smiled up at her friend.

"I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on you, I hope we'll be friends in time." Riyalin said to Zane, a kindness she hadn't displayed in a while set bare for him.

But Zane didn't know that, and he wouldn't, not for a while at least.

"I hope so too." They all sat down, but something about Riyalin made Zane want to show her he was a good person.

The next few hours were filled with them taking Zane around the entire city, and Riyalin warmed up to Zane very quickly, falling into easy conversations, and lax smiles.

By the time Zane went home, he found himself thinking about the raven-haired girl, and her mysteriously piercing grey eyes.
