Prologue

I stared at my fiancée Alex Sorja as he played on the lush green football fields of the world renowned Estadio Santigao Bernabeu in Madrid.  My fiancée Alex was a striker for the Real Madrid. He caught me looking at him and smiled and began to tackle and dribble the ball around the traffic cones that were arranged in a straight line. His friend Christian Alvarez called out, “Alexi stop showing off in front of our wives mate. You’ll give us a hard time.”

I laughed at him, and he did too. Christian winked at me and I winked back, “Come on Alexi, stop raining on their parade.” Alex stopped playing and shouted, “Milania, Why don’t you show us some moves?”

“Show you all moves or show you mymoves?” I teased back.

“Me, of course!” Christian called out as Alex whacked him on the head.

“Boys and their balls,” Christian’s wife Katie said to me with a smile. I smiled back and nodded. The boys were having practice as they had a friendly warm-up match with FC Barcelona tomorrow.

I stared wistfully at Alex. My beautiful fiancée, oh God, I loved him so much it hurt. He had warm chocolate-y brown eyes with brown hair which had just the right amount of blond in it. His abs stood prominent under the thin fabric of his football jersey. He was everything that I ever wanted and more. He was a footballer and I was a singer, producer and model. My occupation took me to so many places; I didn’t even remember the names. But yet, Alex supported me and stood by me throughout. I loved him, and I knew that he loved me too.

But we had struggled. 

Last year was a nightmare. 

A nightmare none of us would forget.
