Janella’s P●O●V
Ugh. What an ignorant little jerk. Glad he doesn’t know where I live! Maybe I just need to get some sleep. Yeah, then this nightmare should be over.
Arriving at her new home once again, Janella smelt the familiar scent of shrimp. Gloomily she sauntered her way over to the kitchen table. Clearing what was left of the birthday meal, Nella threw the leftovers in the trash- there was no need to remember that night.
As she staggered her way up the stairs, she began to feel a slight pain on the side of her stomach and the tip of her knee.
Oh great. She thought, I really did injure myself. Well, with jerks like him- it’s better safe than sorry!
And with that she shuffled over to her room and collapsed on the floor. Sweet dreams, Nella. Sweet dreams.
* * *
The early morning sun shone through her crystal clear windows. The windows lined all the walls of her room- all but one.
6:47 a.m.
As Janella came back to reality, she looked around her room. Everywhere, there lay crumpled newspaper, bubble wrap, and items from her past.
Guess it’s time to finish unpacking then go for a walk to get some fresh air and think in the park. . .
Remaining in her room, Nella stood up and started to finish unpacking. As she pulled each item out of each box, memories flooded back to her. Was she really in England? Was this her life now?
Hours passed, finally it was finished. Her furniture was almost impossible to move but she managed. Everything layed perfectly and well organized. Pictures of her and old friends hung on her walls along with beautiful decorations. The boxes and wrapping excess was neatly placed outside next to the full trash can.
A deep sigh of relief escaped from Janella’s lips. Well Janella Rose Ericks, this is it.
Rose.
Janella laughed as she thought about the silly name. To other it was beautiful, but to her it seemed slightly silly- the story of how she got it that is.
She was nine years old- about a couple of nights before the incident. Janella and her mom were on the couch cuddled up next to each other- her father at work.
“Mom, how did I get my middle name?”
“Haha, well sweetie, it’s a long story.”
“I want to hear it! Please, Mom! Please!”
“Oh alright.
It was about 20 years ago. Your Father and I were in middle school and he decided it would be fun to pass me a note. It read, “Meet me at the lake after school. I have a surprise for you.” At first, I wasn’t sure if I should accept it and go or not. I showed the note to all my best friends and they encouraged me too. So, that afternoon I walked all the way to the lake which was deep behind the Oak trees surrounding the neighborhood.
All the kids at our school would go and meet up there in the summer, but this was fall- so I was really wondering what the surprise could be. Getting closer and closer to the lake, my heart began to flutter. You see, at the time I had a major crush on your dad- but I don’t think he knew it. I think to him, we were just best friends.
Once I reached the lake, I looked around and found him to be nowhere in sight. Right when I was about to leave, I heard a small, “Ow!” come from behind me. Turning around, I began to laugh as I saw that your dad was holding a beautiful, red rose for me.”
