Janella’s P●O●V

“For real Harry. Where are we going?”

“Relax, we will be there soon.”

“No, tell me- I’m not playing.”

“Playing what?” he simpered.

“Your games.” Janella confidently responded.

Harry didn’t know how to respond, so he just sat back with one hand still on the wheel and continued to drive.

“Okay we are here.”

“Where is here?”

“Just look out there.” He said pointing above the trees.

Slowly the sun pulled down into a closing on the horizon. As the orange, pink, and somewhat purple colors drew back into the sun- Janella sat in amazement.

It was beautiful. Like nothing she had ever seen before.

Finally the horizon flashed and everything was gone- night had hit. All of the beautiful, vibrant colors had turned to shades of cool blue and black. The day was done.

            “Wow, haha.”

            “You like it?”

Janella shook her head.

“That was like nothing I had ever witnessed before. I, I really loved it. Thank you.”

“You know Janella,” he breathed, “you didn’t know why the sun did that, or that it can happen- you just gave it a chance.”

Janella was very confused now.

            “Yeah. So?”

“So what I’m trying to say is, you didn’t know that your dad was struggling- but you didn’t even bother to give him a chance.”

“But he lied to me! That’s totally different.”

“By not telling you he lied? No, you never asked or bothered to wonder. He didn’t lie- you just never noticed.”

Harry was right. Her dad was sick and she didn’t even care. All she bothered to complain about was the fact that her life was ‘so hard’ because she was moving and had no friends. Now her dad was dying and she had left him stranded in his hospital room alone- and she had blamed Harry for his sickness. She felt terrible.

“I guess you’re right. I just need to move along, grow up, and stop complaining. I’m sorry. Thank you for showing me and helping me, Harry. Really, thank you.” She said, and then she fell silent.

“Your welcome- I’m glad you know.” He replied as he pulled away to take Janella home.

All Janella could do was stare out the window of his car. Tree’s past and she could hear many, many crickets in the background.  She knew she had to give England a chance, which she had, now it was time for her dad.

She was going to do all she could to make sure he got better. And if he couldn’t, well then she was going to have to figure out what to do then too. Her life would be harder, but school was starting soon and she had to make friends.

That reminded her.

Hey, I haven’t heard from Brooke in a while. I wander what’s going on with her.

“Here you are princess.” Harry said as they reached her house.

“You got to stop calling me that!”

“No promises. Haha. Well see you later.”

            “I hope not.”

“Agh, still on that ‘hating me’ subject.”

Janella nodded.

            “Well you’ll come around.”

“Keep thinking that. Now can I have my phone back?” she bitterly remarked.

“Later!” he said as he sped off.

That night she didn’t even bother to talk anymore, she had lots to do- and her dad needed her- he was counting on her.

All that was left on Harry’s mind was:

Why was she so upset all of a sudden when we reached her house? Something’s not right . . .
