ALEXA'S POV:
This is it. The day where my brothers would play. Everyone in the school talked about it. My brothers didn't attend their classes because they had to get ready for the game.
It is afternoon now. Almost everyone in the school is here including some of their family. We waited eagerly on the benches as the players are on the field warming up. Stone asked me to sit at the front. It was always like that. They'd say I am some kind of their lucky charm and if I'm not there, they'd lose. I used to think it was ridiculous but they proved it to me about a year ago where they lose their game for the first time. And they said it was all because I was not there. I recalled being sick that time so I stayed at home.
Anyway, about 15 minutes of waiting, the announcer started to introduce the principal of both schools. Then, started to say some other things that no one cares. Finally, the players are called to the field. We sing our national anthem first and they got to their positions. The players glared each other, challenging them. Stone looked at me right before the whistle blow and I held out a fist to him. He nodded and focus to his front.
I can see that he is nervous. From the way his hands are twitching and the way he would rub it against his shorts. It was not hard to tell. I took a moment to glance around. Everyone is anxious. The whole stadium's filled with screams and cheers and I almost forget that this is just a game between schools and not some olympic game. I scanned over the players from both schools. It looked like we have the same chance of winning though I didn't miss the smug look from the opposite team. The players run around the field, chasing the ball. It was hard to predict who would win as both team have equal strength.
3-1
I bit my lip. Our school is falling behind. Our players looked exhausted now and it is the first break. I noticed the way our students' shoulders are slumped and the way their cheers are not as loud. Even the cheeleaders are giving up now. The crowd in our side is not as loud and we've been booed by the other.
And me being the crazy sister I am, I run towards the side of the field where our team is. I searched frantically for my brother and there he is, sitting with his head down, David is beside him in the same position. He is holding a piece of cloth, staring at it. I walked closer and it is written with a word. 'Captain'. I sighed.
"Hey."
He looked up. I can see it in his eyes. He was giving up. The light that's once there is gone along with his energy.
"Hey. What are you doing here Alex? You shouldn't be here you know." His tone defeated.
"I know."
I sit beside him, hugging his shoulders as he rests his head on my shoulder.
"Guess you're not my lucky charm anymore." He chuckled tiredly. It didn't offend me, not that it's important right now.
"Giving up already? C'mon. We still have our chance."
"No we're not. We are two points behind Alex! Can't you see that?!" He screamed despite being tired. I rolled my eyes and got up, extending my hand.
"C'mere."
He took it and I take the cloth he was holding and wrapped it around his arm. I called the rest of the team and their coach. They gathered around me. I asked for a paper and pen and started scribbling on it. They all looked at me curiously as I did.
"Done." I smiled proudly.
"What's that?" One of the players asked.
I handed it to the coach and he stared intently at it, nodding.
