Takes place right after the season three finale but it's Christmas time and Emma hasn't talked to anyone about their kiss. Including Killian.
Killian stood on his ship leaning over the the side. He couldn't stop thinking about Emma.
He knew she felt the same as he did. Their kiss had proved that.
But she had hardly spoken to him since that night and whenever she saw him, she would practically run the other way.
He felt miserable. He finally felt accepted by someone but he was worried she regreted it and that she would never like him the way he liked her.
Hell he didn't just like her, he was in love with her.
He considered telling her his thoughts but he was afraid he would completely scare her off.
If anything Emma had to be the first one to make a move. She needed to choose when to lower her walls.
Pulling out his flask, Killian took a large swig and sighed.
Suddenly he heard footsteps behind him and he turned around to see Emma standing uncomfortably behind him.
"Emma?" Killian asked surprised.
Emma smiled. "Hey."
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Mary Margaret is having a Christmas eve party and I came to invite you."
Killian raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
Emma nodded. "Its tommorow at 6...will You come?" Emma asked with a slight plead to her voice.
Killian nodded. "Aye. I'll be there."
Emma smiled. "Good. I'll see you then."
She walked off his ship while trying to conceal a smile.
Emma hasn't been able to stop thinking about Killian either. She wanted so badly to be honest with him but she was terrified.
She had been avoiding him because she was worried that if she talked to him for too long she wouldn't be able to control herself.
She had invited him to the Christmas party because she felt guilty for avoiding him. She could see the hurt in his eyes every time she dismissed him or walked away when she saw him.
It was tearing her apart.
So when the Christmas party was coming up Emma found herself worried about what to wear. She didn't normally care what she wore but tonight was different. She wanted to look nice.
She settled for a nice red dress that ended at her knees and had quarter length sleeves.
As she walked to Grannys, where the party was being held, she was already nervous about seeing Killian.
When she walked in people were already eating and talking. The whole diner was full of people.
Looking around, Emma noticed Killian sitting at the bar alone. She felt a ping of guilt in her heart and walked over to him.
She tapped him on the shoulder and smiled. "Is this seat taken?" She asked.
Killians face instantly brightened and he motioned for her to sit down.
"You look stunning love." Killian said in awe.
Emma blushed and thanked him. "You clean up nice too."
Killian grinned and offered her his flask.
She took a sip out of it and handed it back as they started talking about the Christmas traditions of her land.
She told him about decorating trees, lights, exchanging gifts, and then she got to mistletoe.
"Mistletoe? You mean like the plant?"
Emma laughed. "Yeah. Except here, when two people are underneath it your supposed to kiss."
Killian raised an eyebrow and took another drink. "In that case maybe I should look around for some."
Emma blushed and was thinking of what to say when her mother rushed over to her.
"Emma! Your here. Come here for just a second. I have someone who wants to talk to you." She said with enthusiasm as she dragged Emma away from Killian.
Emma turned back as she was being dragged away and mouthed an apology to him. He nodded and offered her a sad smile before finishing off his rum.
Emma was brought over to a group of people that she barely knew who all started greeting her like an old friend.
She put on a good face and talked to them for a while but couldn't seem to get away.
She glanced over at Killian. Desperately wanting to go back to him.
Over the speakers Christmas music had been playing. As a particular song came on, Emma realized how much she could relate to it.
All I want for Christmas is you.
It was spot on. She didn't want anything but Killian and she'd be damned if she was going to let him slip away from her.
Emma rudely interrupted one of the dwarfs and excused herself.
She pushed her way through the crowd and when she got to Killian, she discreetly grabbed his hook and continued walking out the back door.
Killian reacted quickly. Following as she made her way outside. When they got outside she switched to where she was holding his hand rather then his hook.
Although confused at what was going on, Killian blindly followed Emma as she led him through the streets of Storybrooke.
"Where are you taking me love?" He asked after a while.
Emma shook her head, "You'll see. We're almost there."
Killian accepted her answer and they kept walking.
Finally they were at a small park in the forest.
Emma led him to a wooden archway.
"This is a lovely park love, but why are we here." Killian asked.
"Because I realized something tonight. I realized that I'm tired of being afraid to let down my walls with you."
"What do you mean?" Killian asked. Still unsure what was going on.
"I mean that I want to give us a shot. At least, if that's what you want."
Killian's eyes lit up and he grinned ear to ear. "Of course it is love."
Emma smiled and sighed in relief.
Killian continued, "but why bring me here to tell me?"
Emma pointed up and Killian looked where she had pointed.
"Mistletoe?" Killian asked with a smirk.
"Aye." Emma said at an attempt to mock him.
Killian laughed and quickly pulled Emma flush against his chest before capturing her lips in a searing kiss that ended both of their suffering.
Neither pulled away for several minutes and when they did Emma sighed in content and smiled. "Merry Christmas Killian."
"Aye love, merry Christmas indeed."
