The library was silent but only had two people in it. They were completely surrounded by bookcases.
"What were we looking for again, my dear?"
She wore a floor sweeping, snow white ball room dress, one that shined in the lights they passed by. Her white hair was pulled up in a loose bun and her face bearing no make up, her skin a beautiful ivory pale. But her eyes are what stood out being a bright sky blue that's seemed to glow with a black slit for a pupil.
"Some sort of password?"
She pulled a book from the shelf, opening it and instantly being greeted by a scene of the man and a woman.
Quickly closing she threw it aside.
"I did not want to see that."
"See what, my love?*
Another demon came into view, causing her to give a soft smile.
He had tan skin and wore a gold-yellow suit jacket with charcoal black sleeves, the back of it sweeping down in a scissor-tail style. A brick design adorned the entire jacket. His dark yellow hair was neatly combed, edges tipped with black. He wore a pair of black slacks that matched his sleeves and a pair of heeled boots to match. But like her, his eyes were the attention seeker being bright yellow with black slit pupils.
"Oh, just a memory of the man and...his wife? I'm not sure... Well even so, it was very disturbing. I believe I found the bedroom section of his memory, where was his safe located again?"
"The bedroom memories? Oh, is it those? You know, when we're finished here, perhaps I could keep you up for a few hours tonight?"
His tone held a seductive note, one she only laughed softly at.
"Let's get out of this mind before we plan, dear."
He returned her laugh, turning away and looking up. The bookshelves were taller than anything he'd seen, every shelf filled with books, memories.
It was by far the most complicated mind they'd been in yet. But then again, the man was eighty-two, naturally he'd have a large mindset made to fit all of his memories.
"The safe was in his office, we need to find that and hurry. The assassination is-"
The whole place quaked, shelves shaking and books hitting the floor.
"No, it's too soon!"
She stumbled, leaning on a shelf before looking behind them.
"Cipher, it's collapsing! Why would they kill him before we were-"
Books fell about them as the library shook again, sending her to her knees.
Pages turned, sounds like memories playing as the falling opened.
Only one caught their attention.
"I will give my life to save this town, summon the demon and his queen. Ask for the code to my safe, and once they're in, kill me before they return."
A look of horror crossed her face as she was pulled to her feet.
"If I'm right, it'll break the mindscape and, hopefully, death will take them as well."
A bookcase crumbled to dust behind, him pulling her closer to himself.
"We need to leave! Before it collapses fully!"
Horrid cracking sounded around them, rips forming before he pulled her away.
Books showered them, a bright blue umbrella appearing in her hand. She quickly opened it over her head, protecting herself from the falling books as they ran. But she couldn't run with it in hand, letting it disappear as she grabbed her dress.
"Cipher, I don't think we're gonna make it!"
She was growing terrified, his grip on her hand tightening and they attempted their escape.
"We're gonna make it! How else am I gonna make that plan for tonight?"
He meant it to get her mind off impending death, her pants sounding out.
They were drowned out by awful breaking sounds, a signal of the floor giving out.
The commotion pulled her attention behind her, the sight of the floor giving away made terror pool inside her.
"Cipher!!"
"Don't look back! We're almost-"
A book case fell before them, causing her to scream and cling to the demon.
He hoisted her up onto the thick case.
"Keep moving, I'll be right behind you!"
She hesitated, the collapsing floor making her fear for their lives but she clambered to her feet once more, taking off.
As promised, he caught up, grasping her hand and quickly leading her forward.
The falling floor had reached them, claiming her feet as she plunged down.
"Cipher!!"
His grip on her tightened, backing up as he tried to keep from falling as well.
"Im not letting you go! We're going home together!"
He could only move back so fast, she could see him struggling to not fall as well.
"C-Cipher, let me go!"
His eyes widened at her and he frantically shook his head.
"No! I can't, I still need you! I can't lose you!"
"I won't be gone forever, one day I'll return and you'll know it's me..."
Tears streamed down his face as he peered down to her, her soft smile only drawing more salty liquid from his eyes.
Then he lost his footing, falling back as his grip was lost on her.
"No! Mabeline!"
He scrambled back, disappearing from the dissipating mindset. He was back in his home, their home... And now she was gone. His golden palace felt empty, his despair overwhelming as he wailed for her return.
"Mabeline, I still need you! Come back!!"
He stayed that way for hours, crying his despair away. He was sitting in silence when he realized who it was who had killed her.
Rage swept over him and he got to his feet.
He needed to remind why you couldn't break one of his deals. He turned, vanishing from his palace and leaving to the home of the man that had summoned them.
A scream of terror ensued once his presence was noticed, golden eyes glowing.
"Not only did you trick and break our deal, but you killed my queen. You'll get a punishment worse than death."
And he snapped, the man suddenly hanging from the ceiling with chains, screams of pain and horror emitting from his lungs.
"You're going to stay that way until I've decided I'm bored and kill you."
He snapped, transporting the man to his palace dungeon and himself to his living room.
There he was immediately greeted by the large portrait of them both.
Sorrow filled his mind once more before he sighed, taking a seat.
"We'll... meet again... don't know where... don't know when. But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day..."
