The work took at least hours, the whole day and a half. The entire time, Mabel fending off the eye bats or hiding to keep them from finding her.
And she finished all the sweaters.
Now she was just knitting one giant slab of knitted yarn, already changed to another color when she ran out.
"Mabes! Come to the campfire!"
She looked up, giving a smile to see the people working to build it.
It was a decent size, not massive but well enough to light the whole area.
"Yeah okay!"
Scooping up all the sweaters, she ran over, several dropping before she made it.
"I made end of the world sweaters!"
She giggled as she dropped them by a log, heading for the ones she dropped. When she returned, she began handing them out.
"This one's for you. This one, you."
Her mumbles continued, a smile forming with each thanks.
Finally she reached Pacifica.
"Here ya go! I figured you wanted a more authentic sweater."
She held out her llama sweater, Pacifica taking hesitantly.
After another moment, she pulled it on.
"Not wearing it cause I like it, it's just warm."
Mabel laughed, taking her seat once more.
Everyone was chatting, not too loud but enough to show they were relaxed.
It felt like ages since they'd been this peaceful, not on edge and able to breathe.
"Hey Mabel, you asked for help with something?"
She looked up, looking towards Pacifica. She'd kept her voice low, which Mabel was grateful for.
"Yeah, come on."
Carefully, the two stood, heading away from the shack and into the trees.
Mabel came to a stop, dropping to her knees and began drawing.
She carefully wiped mistakes, being careful to draw each symbol before getting to the center one.
Then she stood and faced Pacifica.
Pacifica crossed her arms.
"What's that?"
Mabel looked towards the circle, double checking before looking at Pacifica once more.
"I need you to summon the demon soul in me."Dipper watched them walk away into the trees, curious as to what they were doing.
After a moment, and making sure no one noticed, he slipped off his spot and headed after them.
He thought he ended up lost until he heard them speaking to each other.
Heading for their voices, he found their clearing, gaze settling on the circle.
Then he figured it out.
"Mabel, no! You can't!"
Both girls looked up, Mabel startled.
"Dipper, I have to!"
"If you do that, how do you know it'll seven work?!"
Mabel walked over to him, raising a hand.
"It has to! I've thought everything through and made sure it completely worked!"
"But... What if it does..."
He hesitated, not sure how to word it.
"...and you can't come back?"
His eyes welled up with tears as she shook her head.
"Then I'm stuck as Mabeline."
Both were silent before Dipper opened his mouth once more.
Mabel cut him off, putting her hand up to silence him.
"I have to do this, it's my fault, I have to fix it. She'll agree with me."
Her own tears ran down her face, as she gave him a big smile.
"I'll be fine."
Dipper sniffed before matching her smile and hugging her tightly.
"Then, I'm staying right here."
Mabel gave a nod, heading back to the circle where Pacifica finally chimed in.
"For the record, I think its a pretty bad idea."
It made the siblings laugh, a small smile forming on her face.
"You ready girl?"
Mabel cracked her knuckles, red flames bursting from her hands before the whole circle lit up.
"Let's take down that demon."
Dipper rubbed his arm, anxious to see if this would work or not.
Pacifica began her chant, the whole circle of flames turning from red to white.
Then the monochrome pallet swept over the area, gray and white and everything slowing down.
"Mabel, I think somethings wrong!"
Neither girls seemed to hear him when he spoke, the fire leaping from the circle and surrounding Pacifica.
He watched her flinched but her chant didn't stop. It couldn't, she was too far into it.
"Dipper get back!"
He did as told, stumbling backwards as the flames suddenly exploded outwards.
Both girls collapsed.
"Mabel! Pacifica!"Bill flinched, sitting up in his chair before standing.
One or two monsters turned, watching as he headed for the edge and stared out.
"Bill? Is something wrong?"
He couldn't pull his eyes from the treeline, worry beginning to rise as he stared.
"I...felt her. I felt her presence..."
Had Mabel figured out her powers even further? Further enough to the extent that her soul waves now fully and completely replicated his queens.
"That's impossible, she's gone."
The minion waved their hand, Bill whirling and shoving them down.
"She is here! I know my own wife! Are you saying I don't know her?"
The minion frantically shook it's head, scrambling back.
"O-Of course not! I-I'm just saying...d-don't...let your hopes get too high..."
Bill's grip loosened on them before he turned back to the window and sat.
His legs dangled over the edge, fighting from giving in to despair.
"I know...but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt any less."
He just hoped she wouldn't leave him again.
