Two Weeks Later
She was being lead through the trees. Blindfolded might I add.
They had said they had a surprise for her and considering the day was her birthday, she had an idea of what it was.
"Ready Mabel?"
It was Pacifica speaking and she actually seemed excited.
"You know I am!"
She gave a wide grin, one hand lead by her brother, the other by Wendy and Pacifica steering her by her back.
The irony of this was Dipper didn't know what it was either. He'd been given the task to keep his twin occupied while they got it set up.
The familiar crunch of gravel went under foot and her smile only grew.
"Are we there?"
"Just arrived!" Wendy.
"Oh yeah girl, you should see Dippers face." Pacifica.
Mabel gave a giggle, her own excitement growing towards taking the blindfold off.
"Kay you're good!"
Grunkle Stan.
The two girls responded by untying the blindfold, removing it.
Everything startled her.
On a very large banner was "Happy Birthday Mabel and Dipper" and below that was "thank you for saving the Falls Mabel".
Her eyes welled up with tears before a massive smile grew on her face.
"This so my home, of course I'd save it but..."
Her gaze moved to Dipper who was smiling at her
"I couldn't do it without my brother."
Dipper was startled before hugging his sister tightly.
She returned the hug, cheers rising around them.
When she let him go her smile turned into a grin.
"Now let's get this party started!"
"Heck yeah!"
Music blared around them, laughter and chatter rising in volume as well.
But her curiosity laid with if she could enter the shack yet.
They had said they'd been working on it by never said if they figured it out.
Deciding to find it herself, she moved over and stuck her hand out.
Nothing.
She moved closer.
Nothing.
Then she-
"What are you doing?"
She jumped, startled at Pacifica suddenly speaking.
"They hadn't told me if they'd gotten it to where either can go in."
She finally sat on the stairs, giving a soft smile.
Pacifica took a seat right beside her.
"You know, you're always out there being the wildest of them all."
Mabel gave a shrug.
"Still adjusting to not really being human anymore I guess."
Pacifica gave a shug as well.
"I suppose that makes sense. Oh Dipper's coming, I'm gonna let you two talk."
Pacifica got to her feet, skedaddling away.
Dipper promptly took her seat.
"Hey Mabes, what's up?"
She didn't say anything at first but Dipper began poking her shoulder.
"Okay okay...it's Bill...I...didn't tell the whole thing."
Dipper was confused, making her give a soft sigh.
"He made a promise with Mabeline just before she was gone. Said that he'd protect me, watch over me. In return...one day maybe I could love him just as much as he'd loved her."
She could still remember the man's crying when she'd faded away.
"He'd cried when she was gone. He cried so hard. All I could do...was not hate him...but I still don't like him...you know?"
Dipper slowly nodded. It was all new to new him but it made sense.
"Yeah...I know. Don't worry Mabes, it'll be fine."
She slowly gav a smile, looking to him.
"Yeah I suppose you're right. I have a demon watching over me and the best brother a girl could ask for."
Dipper returned her smile before standing up.
"Now come on, I believe it's time to open presents."
She gave a big smile, quickly getting to her feet.
"Alright, my second favorite part of our birthday!"
She gave a grin, hugging people and accepting the gifts.
Pacifica commenting on breaking a nail while wrapping. Candy and Grenda stating it'd taken days to complete theirs. Wendy saying how she thought about one thing, then picked another.
It all seemed to overlap her previous sadness and confusion over the subject of Bill Cipher.
All she could do, was smile. He floated several feet away from the group, would've been right beside her but he didn't like crowds. Whether they knew he was there or not.
Each gift seemed to bring a smile on her face, bringing a smile on his own.
Mabeline was gone, unfortunately, but Mabel was still here.
Of course, he would always miss her.
But she'd simply say to move on.
He gave a soft sigh, sitting down on a tree stump as he watched the twins talk to everyone.
Even so, he'd still love this girl. Not because of Mabeline but because she had the same characteristics.
And the white in her hair really seemed to match her brown. His smile eventually faded before he floated over to beside her. He wasn't sure if her newly accepted demo status would let her see him, but it would possibly let her hear him.
He gave a soft sigh, leaning on her back still unnoticed.
"We'll meet again...don't know where...don't know when, but I know we'll meet again...some sunny...day..." And he evaporated out of the town back to his home.A tear slid down her face, smile fading as words slowly seeped from the air around her. A song, one she didn't know but had heard. No, not her, Mabeline. She still had her memories.
"Mabel, are you okay?"
She slowly smiled once more, wiping the tear off.
"Yeah, just thinking about how I'll have to leave soon."
No, it was Bill. Somehow, she had heard him. It didn't annoy her just...made her sad. But she would finish this party with a smile. So, she stopped thinking of the demon and went back to the cake cutting with Dipper.
Presents we're done, cake all but gone, guests heading home. They'd be leaving the falls and going home tomorrow. Then something occurred to her, deciding to seek out Grunkle Ford to help confirm it.
She wasn't sure if she wanted it to be true or not.
