Maya wakes up and the first person she can see is Sebastian. She jumps up and instantly regrets it because now her head is spinning. She is in the back of a car with Sebastian in the passenger seat. She looks to her right and tears well up.
"I missed you so much monkey."
He grabs her hand and kisses it.
"Why didn't you come take me dad."
Maya's father pretty much looks the same but he has a few grey hairs now and wrinkles under his eyes.
"I really wanted to Maya believe me I did. Those men tracked my every move for many years and till this day one of thrm still does. A couple of days ago, one of them rang me. They told me that If I came back in town, they would kill me the same way you killed that girl. I asked them what were they talking about and they thought I knew. They knew that I would try to come back and see you. They knew that I would never believe my daughter would commit such a crime. They were right. I know you didn't do this. As soon as I got here I went to the only place that I could think of and I was hoping to see you and I did. You walked out ofbte house angry and I wish I got out of the car at that moment and given you a hug... But it wasn't safe. Look Maya, whatever challenges and hardship you face, I will always be there monkey. I'm sorry for not being there all those years I really am." He wipes his tears and Maya truly believes him.
"I don't live at home anymore. It's been a while. Me and mum don't see eye to eye ever since you left. I will never forgive her dad...never." she cries. He hugs her and kisses her head. Now would be the time to tell him about Mason she thinks.
"Dad there's something you need to know." She lets go and sits up.
"Mum was pregnant and she didn't tell you. You have a son dad. He looks just like you. His name is Mason, he is 13 now and he's the most sweetest and caring boy I know... just like you dad."
Maya's dad is in shock. The atmosphere is silent.
"Mason." He whispers as a tear falls down his cheeks.
Maya is still crying.
"He always asks about you dad. I will make sure you meet him."
"I would like that." He smiles.
Maya suddenly realises that Sebastian is there watching them. She wipes her tears.
"I need to go now Maya." Her dad says.
Maya is upset as he says that.
"It's not safe but I'll be back monkey."
"You promise?" She grabs his hand.
"I promise."
She watches her dad leave. The sun has gone to rest and it is now dark and cold. Maya doesn't realise that she is shivering. Sebastian takes off his jacket and wraps it around her. She looks up at him.
"You need it more than I do." He says.
"You want a ride home?" He asks.
Maya nods.
They get to the parking lot of the apartment when Maya gets a call. It was Jake.
"Hey." She says.
"Hey Maya... I'm sorry that I didn't call sooner. How are you?"
"I'm great Jake so much has happened but how are you first?"
A few seconds go by with no response.
"Jake?"
"Maya I'm done."
Maya frowns.
"What do you mean?" She asks.
"I can't be with you anymore Maya."
This was supposed to be a happy day for her. Meeting her dad after so long.
"Why? You think I did it don't you? You think I killed her."
Jake sighs but doesn't say anything.
"Maya I'm sorry-
"Look I don't need an explanation, you've said what you had to say." She hangs up the phone, closing her eyes she rests her head against the seat.
"Erm..."
Maya looks at Sebastian. "I'm sorry you're having to hear all this."
"Nah don't be." He says.
"Do you want company?"
The truth is Maya didn't want to be alone. so she agrees.
