Tonight was date night, therefore Ashton was beyond nervous. He had planned everything, it was perfect in his mind and he hoped that Luke would love it.
The brunette buttoned up his black skinny jeans and he jumped in his shoes. Looking at himself in the mirror Ashton sighed, he had to relax, it was just Luke, he was still that weird but amazingly cute boy from school. There was no need to be stressed. Everything would be just fine.
Ashton checked his hair on last time and he went to the living room. Luke wasn't here yet so he decided to knock at his door to make sure everything was okay.
Luke opened quickly, he was stunning like always. His skinny jeans were hugging his legs perfectly and he had a band shirt with a leather jacket. He smiled shyly to Ashton, his cheeks were bright pink already.
"You're ready?" Ashton asked.
"Yeah, I can't wait." Luke said closing the door room.
Ashton grabbed his hand and they made their way to the brunette's car. Luke had no idea what they were gonna do but he trusted Ashton so it would be fun. Obviously.
"Where are we going?" Luke asked after five minutes of the car ride.
"You'll see." Ashton smirked not looking away from the road.
The blonde whined, he was always super excited about surprise but he was too impatient to wait.
"C'mon Lu, we're almost there." Ashton giggled.
"Is it the arcade?" The blonde said shuffling in his seat like a little boy.
"Nope, it's not the arcade." Ashton said and Luke frowned.
"It's the zoo?" He said exited. "Oh my God it's the zoo isn't it?"
"Not the zoo either." Ashton giggled. "Stop trying to guess, you'll know in a few minutes."
"Bu-"
"Luke..." Ashton looked at him with a fond and amused look.
"Fine." The blonde smiled.
Luke finally kept himself quiet during the five minutes left while Ashton was smirking smugly.
"Sea Life!" Luke gasped when he saw the parking lot signs. "But isn't it closed?" He frowned. "It's already 7pm"
"It's night visit, I thought you'd like it." Ashton smiled getting out of the car.
The blonde nodded eagerly and he kissed Ashton's cheeks quickly. They both walked to the reception and Ashton handed two tickets to the lady. Luke was looking at the place in awe, he always loved the sea animals and in his twenty years of life, he never came here.
Both thanked the lady and they started the visit. First, they discovered the day and night exposition of the Barrier Reef, then they walked to the Dungong's island and Luke thought those animals were the cutest thing ever.
"Can we go to the turtles now?" Luke asked softly.
Ashton nodded and they went to see the turtles, it was nice Luke loved the turtles. Calum had one when he was a kid but it died. Ever since Luke wanted a turtle but unfortunately his mum used to say it wasn't a good idea, apparently Luke would forget to feed the poor animal.
Luke knew he wouldn't but oh well.
"Eh you wanna go to the shark Valley?" Ashton asked, as excited as a kid.
When they both arrived at the shark valley, Luke was amazed, it was a huge tunnel with basically sharks everywhere, above him and on the side, it was impressing and Luke really loved to be here with Ashton.
Ashton made fun of Luke when he was scared by a shark and then Luke got revenge by saying that the ugliest shark looked like Ashton even if the animal wasn't ugly at all. The older boy just chuckles and ended up kissing Luke's cheek.
Everything was really going well, Luke was happy, his mind full of fish with bright colours and Ashton loved seeing him like this, carefree and genuinely happy.
Everything was perfect, until someone called out Luke, by using Jack's name.
"Hey Jack!" A brown haired girl called. "Holy shit is that really you?" She giggled walking to the boys. "I'm Makayla! Brisbane summer camp?" She said her eyes sparkling with joy.
Luke froze. He was looking at her, listening to the words coming out of her mouth but he couldn't move nor say anything. His heart was in his throat while his body was drenched in a cold sweat.
"Is he okay?" Makayla asked looking at Ashton.
Ashton noticed Luke's state and he slowly grabbed his hand and entwined their fingers. He squeezed the blonde's hand multiple times trying to make him relax but he was unresponsive.
"Hm he's n-not Jack." Ashton said. "It's Luke."
"You're sure?" She giggled happily. "You definitely look like Jack." She said turning to Luke and puts her hand on his shoulder.
Luke flinched at the touch and he backed off, hiding behind Ashton while their hands were still entwined. The younger boy was shaking a little, his legs felt like cotton and he could already feel the tears threatening to fall.
The worst part of this was the anger, he was so angry at her. He was aware that it wasn't Makayla's fault, because Jack and he looked like twins and she was obviously unaware of Jack's death. Luke's body was burning, the familiar heat on his chest while his jaw was clenched. The blonde was holding Ashton's hand for dear life, not wanting to make a scene in the middle of the aquarium.
"Y-yeah we're sure." He stuttered not really sure what to say. "I'm sorry I don't want to be rude but you should go, Luke's not really feeling well."
Makayla nodded and she smiled apologetically before walking away to her friends. As soon as she was out of sight Luke bursted into tears. Ashton rushed to hug him and the blonde buried his head against Ashton's chest, soaking the boy's shirt.
"It's okay she's gone." Ashton said rubbing the boy's back.
Luke cried on Ashton's shoulder for a while, he stopped eventually when he was too tired to keep going and then they left the aquarium.
"I'm sorry I ruined our date." Luke said sheepishly while Ashton was driving to God's know where.
"No... Not at all Lukey." The older boy said patting his knee. "I loved it." He smiled.
"Really?" The young blonde asked rubbing his eyes.
"Yeah, you should forget about the last part." Ashton chuckled. "Eh, what do you say if we don't go home right now? I'd like to buy you ice cream." He proposed.
Luke nodded shyly and they went to the closest ice cream shop. Ashton ordered chocolate chip flavour for Luke and he took a lemon/vanilla cup. Luke was already sat at a booth, he was so disappointed in himself, he shouldn't have act like this but he couldn't control it. He thought that maybe Ashton wouldn't want to keep dating him and he was scared of this, but when Ashton came back smiling with the ice creams, he thought that maybe Ashton didn't care about him being a little messed up.
They ate their ice creams quietly, looking at each other here and there. Ashton was craving to kiss the blonde again but he wasn't sure if it was the right time to do it, Luke was still a little shook up by the girl at the aquarium and he didn't want to make things worst.
But then Luke started bitting his bottom lip and Ashton gave up. They looked at each other for a few seconds and Ashton started to lean in until his lips were ghosting over Luke's ones. His breath smelled like vanilla and Luke wanted to smash his lips on Ashton's right now.
Their eyes were still locked and Luke's heart missed a bit when Ashton asked softly.
"C-can I kiss you?" He said while his right hand grabbed Luke's neck.
Luke nodded and they kissed until they both ran out of breath.
