Ben Novak's eyes fluttered open. He was surrounded by white. White walls, white floors, white ceiling, white sheets. He immediately began to panic. 'Where the hell am I?'

He tried to sit up right, but to no avail as a searing pain went through his entire body as he tried to move. He groaned in a mix of pain and frustration.

Finally giving up, Ben patted the side of his bed, looking for the familiar remote that had to be somewhere.

His fingers grazed a piece of plastic. Grabbing it, Ben pressed the button on the remote. The bed slowly shifted so he was sitting somewhat upright.

The nurse outside of the room must've heard the commotion coming from Bens room as she knocked on the window before entering.

"Oh! Mr.Novak! You're awake!" The nurse walked to the machinery next to the bed, carefully tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear as she worked.

Ben shifted in his bed, a sharp pain searing through his body as he did so. Clutching his side he spoke up, "Where am I?" He managed to croak out, his throat feeling as if a million rocks had scratched it.

The nurse quickly rushed to the other side of the room, recording something on a small whiteboard attached to the door. "You're at Cambridge Military hospital. You suffered a major explosion in Afghanistan."

Ben shook his head and followed the nurse as she made her way around the room. "What explosion? Afghanistan?" Ben shook his head, trying to make sense of it all. When had he been to Afghanistan?

"Sir, can I ask you how much you can remember before today?" The nurse stopped in her tracks, clutching a clipboard to her chest.
"Well, I remember my family, " Ben smiled, thinking back to his witty father and fun loving mother. "and my little sister. The two of us always got into trouble around the house. I remember graduating from high school, and then, " Ben pauses.

After graduating high school his memories are blurry. Like a thick fog was covering up everything that he was meant to see. "After that...nothing."
