Twenty Five

I could hear her chatting excitedly as they came up the corridor. "Shhh, the babies are trying to sleep" said Jared quietly as the door slowly opened. Shannon and Constance followed Jared into the room. She spotted me on the bed and ran over jumping up on the bed, "mama, I missed you!" she squealed. At the sound of the squeal, another wail was heard, lower and tiny, coming from the cot. She gasped and looked over into the cot, "is that it?!" she said looking between Jared and me. We both nodded waiting for her reaction. She jumped off the bed and went over to peer into the cot. "Is he going to make this much noise all the time?" she asked rolling her eyes. We all stifled laughs as Jared picked him up. "He'll probably make a lot of noise yes, but you did as well" he said rocking him against his chest gently. Jared sat down on the couch and she went over standing in front of them. Shannon and Constance came over hugging and kissing me in congratulations. Beau had stopped crying and opened his eyes to take in his surrounding. "Do you want to hold him" Jared asked, she shook her head, "no, he has a squishy face" she said gently patting his cheek. Suddenly she looked at Beau then at Jared, she repeated the action a couple of times. "He's got pretty eyes like yours daddy" she said cooing at Jared. He grinned at her then looked over at me raising his eyebrows. "Well she's not wrong" I said smiling at him warmly. Suddenly she squealed again!! "Mama, you have a shiny new ring!!" she ran over grabbing my hand to have a closer look. Shannon and Constance both gasped in surprise, I'd almost forgotten. "Oh man, you did it!! Congratulations! Told you she wouldn't say no!" said Shannon going over and leaned down hugging Jared then coming over and pulling me into a bear hug. Constance hugged me firmly, "I'm so happy for you both, this is fantastic news" she said excitedly, I nodded thanking her, a few tears escaping me. "What what?!" asked Bluebell confused. "Daddy and I are going to get married" I said explaining. She nodded and asked simply, "so I get to wear a big fluffy dress?" I nodded, "yes". "Yay!!" She said dancing around totally excited at the prospect. "Well I guess she likes him" said Jared laughing. I shrugged, "as long as he doesn't want her big fluffy dress she'll tolerate him I think!" I said giggling.
