I took my time going downstairs, after Jared's somewhat shocking question and his reaction to my answer, I was reluctant to face him. I frowned as I heard voices because there were a couple that I didn't recognize. I entered the lounge where they were coming from, to find two of the police officers from the other day seated in there. Jared was standing there listening to them nodding, with his arms crossed looking grim. My heart started to race at the look on his face, "Jared...." I whispered fearfully. He looked up and strode over to me, "hey, I was just coming up to get you" he said smiling warmly, taking hold of my hand. He led me over to the couch and we sat down, "where is Bluebell? where's your mom? Shannon?" I said to him in a panicked voice. "Playing, up in the studio, on Shan's drums" he said reassuring me. I nodded and waited for the officer to start explaining, I had been dreading this meeting, but needing answers all the same. The officer glanced at Jared and nodded, "from what we've pieced together so far, she is, was, a fan, she'd been to many many concerts and meet and greets, her bedroom was full of photos of her and the band, she'd been obsessing about Jared on social media for a while, her objective as you can guess was to get to him through you" he said, I looked up at Jared, his face still looking grim. "She has a long history of psych problems, I won't get into any of them, suffice it to say, she was obsessed with becoming a mother" he continued, "David was her brother, he just went along with the plan out of loyalty, but he states he had no idea what her true motives were, had no idea that you were pregnant until he saw you. It's small comfort now, but the guns weren't real, they were fake, to scare you into complying" he said. I nodded again. "How did you find me?" I said, Jared spoke this time. "Tom, he rang me to say that the driver of the car service was found behind the restaurant. He'd been knocked out and his car stolen, they wanted to make sure their client had arrived at their destination safely. They rang him because he was the one who had organized the car for you" he said, "Tom rang me, telling me what had happened, we had both tried calling you literally minutes apart, then the text message came, so I rang him back and between us we figured something had happened to you" he added. I tried to say something, he shook his head, "I knew it wasn't you sending it, there was a spelling mistake and you never 'text' talk" he said with a small smile. I exhaled in relief, "I prayed that you had turned on your find my iPhone again" he said with a wary look. I bit my lip, remembering with dismay why I had turned it off. "Thankfully you had, the thing that took the longest was explaining the whole thing to the police, and actually trying to work out what had happened from what little information we had. We found you pretty quickly after that" he said pulling me close to him. I shook my head in disbelief. I had one more question, "What was she going to do to me?" I was almost afraid of the answer but I needed to know. Jared squeezed my hand tighter, I knew it wasn't going to be pleasant. The officer answered this time. "She told us everything, all the plans. She had set up one of the rooms as a nursery. How she had found a doctor who had been struck off for dangerous practice and was planning on giving you an artificial hormone that induces contractions in pregnant women... she claims she never intended to hurt you, she simply wanted the baby, she'd been .... " I put up my hand to stop him, he didn't need to finish, I could piece together the rest. "We've caught up with the doctor as well" he assured me. He gave us reassurances that she was safely incarcerated and wouldn't be any threat to me. I nodded, I had lost the ability to talk, Jared squeezed my hand and got up to walk the officers out. They spoke for a few more minutes before they left. Jared came back in, he gave me a smile trying to lighten up the mood, "you okay?" he asked. I looked down at my hands, shrugging, "I don't know how to feel" I said in a low voice. He sat down next to me grabbing my hands in his. "Just try not to think about it, it's over, you're safe, we are all safe, it'll take time but you will get past it, the therapist said you are making great progress" he said hopefully. I nodded again, "what if it happens again, what if it's one of the children" I said suddenly panicking at the thought. "No, I'll never let that happen, and we're not going live in fear, we will be safe, I promise you" he said adamantly. He pulled me into his arms holding me close, kissing my forehead and rubbing my back, I held on onto him as though my life depended on it. Right at the moment, if felt like it did.
