0200 hours

I woke up to the sound of Mike mumbling in his sleep. His words were unintelligible, but I had to stop myself from laughing. I didn't know Mike talked in his sleep! If this was anyone else, I would have recorded them, but since it was Mike, I didn't.

I was a bit annoyed that I had to be woken up before it was needed, but then I glanced at my watch. Even though I had level 16 math skills and could calculate the time in a second, it was a bit rusty after I just woke up and still exhausted. It was exactly two in the morning, and Erica hadn't come to get e for recon yet. But perhaps she wasn't getting me for recon.

This thought was elating, as I was still exhausted from yesterday. But this though was wiped away completely when something felt off. You know that feeling, where you can't see or hear anything, but you know someone or something is there or about to happen? That was this feeling.

I grabbed the gun from Mike's nightstand and pointed it at the door. To me, this was comical. I sucked with guns, and SPYDER knew that, so if it was SPYDER, I was screwed. Even so, the safety was on, and until I was sure it was SPYDER, I wasn't about to turn it off. I was sitting up-right in the bed, my legs still covered by the, well, you guessed it, the covers. I kicked them back in case I need to run. All of a sudden, then I was disarmed, the gun flying out of my hands and onto the bed. My legs we swept into a scissor lock and a hand was clapped over my mouth just as I let out a grunt of surprise.

I struggled for a second, realizing it was useless because of two reasons. 1) My attacker was strong. Their legs weren't about to unlock and let me escape. Struggling was useless. Reason number 2) It was Erica. The familiar aroma of lilacs and gunpowder reached me.

I immediately relaxed, telling Erica I knew it was her. She scissored her legs and whispered to me, "It's me. Don't freak out again. Got it?"

"Yes," I said, only it was muffled by her hand, so it sounded like, "Mhyghes,"

She took her hand away, and I sucked in air.

"By the way, good job," she said.

"Hugh?"

"You went on the offensive and grabbed Mike's gun. When most people feel something off, they freeze."

"How did you know that?" I asked, wondering how long she had been in our room.

"Get ready. We are going to do more recon." she said, dodging my question rather than answering it. I wondered what that meant.

"Come on. I got five hours of sleep."

"Five? That's plenty."

"Plenty?" I asked, shocked. "People can barely function with less than six hours of sleep!" I said, exasperated.

"Really?" Erica asked, as if everyone function properly with less than two hours of sleep. "I don't even know what has happened to society these days."

"Can you two your romantic midnight chat elsewhere? I'm trying to sleep!" Mike said, turning to face us.

"It's not romantic!" Erica and I said at the same time.

"Yeah, sure. If you're doing recon, just go already!"

Erica fixed him with an ice cold glare that made him shiver with the sudden drop in temperature.
