DEH - 02 (Obvious)

Based off a fanfic I read about Evan, serenading Connor with Obvious at a school talent show. One noteworthy detail in the fic is that Jared is in charge of the piano accompaniment. So naturally, my Sincerely Three-oriented mind naturally flew to Connor/Evan with a side of unrequited Jared/Evan. Here, my sadistic mindset took over, and well, here's what you get.

Evan's small crush on Zoe develops into a full-blown love. He can't take the pining anymore, so he enlists the help of his best friend Connor (guitarist) and family friend Jared (keyboardist (is that a word)) in his plan to confess to/ask out/serenade Zoe in the upcoming school-wide talent show. Months of practise later, he succeeds. The performance was splendid, heavy with emotion from all three parts. Mountainous volumes of praise are heaped on the three performers and their brilliant, emotional performance. Evan (vocalist) and Zoe are soon dating each other and leading very happy lives.

This does not apply for Connor Murphy and Jared Kleinman.

Both of them have been pining after Evan for the past year (Connor Murphy)/several years (in the case of one family friend Jared Kleinman). They just never told him because they were afraid of the repercussions. Besides, they thought they were being obvious (spoiler: they weren't) and there was no need for them to tell Evan. Why go stating the obvious? So now they're stuck helping a pining Evan with winning Zoe's heart. After all, it's worth it (is it?) - they get to keep Evan's friendship in their lives.

Even so, at the end of the day, Connor and Jared can't help but wonder what might have been.

How could you miss something that's this plain to see, when it's glaring and staring at you so obviously?

(A/N: can be optionally followed up with another rendition of Satisfied, and another rendition of Michael (Connor and Jared) in the Bathroom. Why do I keep shoving deutagonists in these types of AUs?)
