(A/N: Thanks for dragging me into the world of musicals, @thestorygarden @Hailfeather @rosewing- @Caesium0810 I blame you all for my current musical addiction.)
(Major spoilers ahead)
So, I've seen a lot of My R animatics, especially in the musicals community. Like, a lot. However, a lot of these are restricted to one fandom, which, in all honesty, is kind of dull. And so I <s>built a bomb</s> decided to make a new cast list because I don't know how to animate.
Alexander Hamilton is the protagonist. (Well in theory they all are the protagonists because it's implied that all four of the girls are the same person but still I hope you get what I mean.)
He's suffered the most, and his suffering kind of overlaps with the other characters's. I mean, he's lost his parents, his wife (that was kind of his own fault but still), his legacy (the first ever major political sex scandal in America), etc. etc..
Veronica Sawyer is the girl with braided hair.
She's lost Jason Dean after he sacrificed himself and died in the explosion, which can be an alternate interpretation of the "lost my boyfriend" part. (I briefly considered using boyf riends for this but decided not to. Dunno why.) (The original interpretation should be that she was ditched, but the only character here that got "ditched" here is Evan and he fits better with the girl in the yellow cardigan.) The next part, "you've never been robbed of anything" also kind of fits, since she doesn't really get robbed of anything. Her life is mostly decent even though she's sometimes looked down upon because of her friendship with Martha Dunnstock. Even after the events of the musical, she doesn't lose a friend in Martha, and gained one (two?) more in the form of Heather McNamara (and Heather Duke). On an ironic note, she did rob Heather Chandler, Ram Sweeney and Kurt Kelly of their lives. She also robbed Martha of her only friend and the use of her legs. Veronica has also considered self-sacrifice, but instead of it being for JD, it's against JD.
Contrast Hamilton, who's also lost his lover. He's also been robbed of his career thanks to Burr, Jefferson and Madison discovered him cheating on Eliza, which forced him to write the Reynolds Pamphlet. But then again, he isn't much of a victim in this... Meh. (Thanks for the help with this, @thestorygarden! I'm nowhere as familiar to Hamilton as you.)
Jeremy Heere is the short girl. (Yes, he's a tall ass boy. This matters not here.)
Jeremy was considered an outcast/loser in the school hierarchy. He was ignored, and at one point bullied (by people like Rich), hence reflecting his line: "Everyone ignores me, everyone steals (well, in this case "bullies" would fit better but well) - I don't fit with anyone here (as he is a loser and doesn't fit in with the rest of the school)" He does get better after the SQUIPcident, but we only get a glimpse of what the aftermath of the SQUIPcident. It could be possible that he continues to be ignored/bullied/etc.ed afterwards, and for the sake of this AU that's the route we're going with. But even so, he's still loved by everyone at home (Mr. Heere, who tries his best to be a good dad), and he still retains a close friend group (Michael Mell, Christine Canigula, Rich Goranski, Jake Dillinger, Chloe Valentine, Brooke Lohst, Jenna Rolan).
However, Hamilton isn't loved by the people at home. His parents are dead, his wife and children ignore him, as aforementioned. Not only that, he's also belittled by the world after it got wind of the sex scandal. His legacy is ruined, and the other Founding Fathers of America are much more appreciated and admired than him... It kind of is his own fault, but from Hamilton's perspective, he might not see that as clearly and feel that no one is willing to stand up for him.
In the interlude, the protagonist stops many other girls from jumping. These girls can be the protagonists of other musicals. The Greatest Showman, Legally Blonde, Waitress, Anastasia, Mean Girls, Wicked... You name it.
Evan Hansen is the girl in the yellow cardigan (or in this case, a black hoodie).
Evan, after the events of Good For You and Words Fail, does indeed get stuck in a situation where his world hates him - Jared Kleinman, Alana Beck, the Murphys, and even his own mother. Of course, he would feel like everyone is against him, and feel that what he's doing is right, since he believes he's doing is what Connor Murphy would have wanted. He doesn't get beat at home, not physically (Heck, none of the protagonists do), but mentally, he would feel immense pain toward anger, guilt, what he might see as betrayal, etc.. Heck, even going home would probably be painful for him. Out of the four, he also comes the closest to suicide - twice, in fact - once before the musical starts (when he let go of the tree), and once after Good For You and Words Fail (which sounds like a suicide note in itself). To Evan, he might as well have lost everything.
Hamilton's in a similar predicament. Dead parents, no siblings, his wife and children refused to acknowledge him, he loses respect from coworkers, colleagues, the public, dragging the Reynolds and his family down with him. His son dies. He has destroyed his own legacy. Even centuries into the future, people remember him for the Reynolds' incident. He is outshone by the other Founding Fathers. In his life, only one constant remains - work. Does he even have anything worth living for? His story is a tragedy, of sorts. It's a miracle the real life Hamilton didn't try to off himself. In this AU, however, well, he does - all his justifications to life are represented by the other protagonists, and they are all gone. In here, he has no motivation to live. And as per the plot of the story, it's just him and himself. there's no one who can get in his way or interfere. He jumps.
Whether anyone pulls him back up is up to you.
