I finish the letter in four days, I just re read it every day now, making sure it's perfect. Well, I don't think this letter can ever really be perfect; it can just be the least painful. I show it to my grandma the morning of the dance.
"I think it will work, when are you giving it to him?" She asks, handing me back the piece of paper.
"I don't know but it has to be soon. I've been trying not to avoid him but I can't help it. He knows something is different but he is being nice about it. I need to put him out of his misery." I say. "It's the only way, I can't hurt him anymore." I say, folding the piece of paper.
"Okay sweetie pie, just try and forget it during the dance, have fun." She says. I smile and nod. I put the letter away and head out to school to help decorate the gym. I stop to get drinks and doughnuts and when I walk in it definitely seems welcome.
"Thank god you're here!" Carrie says, grabbing a black coffee and a chocolate covered doughnut. I laugh and when I put everything down I just manage to get my hot chocolate before everyone else runs over. I laugh a little and Carrie and I step to the side.
"I take it that it's not going well." I say.
"You can say that again and again. The main thing is the stage." She says, walking me over to the temporary stage at the end of the gym. "I don't know how to make it flow with the room. I keep on re organising it but everyone here is just getting annoyed at me and tired." She says, sipping the coffee as if she needs it to live.
"Well, you look exhausted; I can take over for you." I say.
"I couldn't make you do that." She says, shaking her head.
"Of course you can. Believe me I have heard and remembered your vision plus I have been dreaming about a dance like this for years. Go relax, have a nap and come back in a few hours, it will be perfect." I say.
"But it will be hard work." She says.
"I need it. I've been so focused on other things; I need to focus on something else so I can forget for a while. And I want to relax at the dance, so what else is there that is better?" I ask. She smiles and finishes her coffee.
"Is this de-caf?" She asks.
"I thought you'd need a rest." I shrug. She hugs me and after giving me her plans she runs out. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if she just slept in her car.
"Where did she go?" A guy asks me as he finishes his doughnut. I smile and stand on stage.
"I am taking over for now, I'll decide on what to do, you guys relax. The dance is in seven hours, let's get this done as soon as." I say. There is a little round of applause and I look around, looking at what I can do.
From the entrance there are pale cream light boxes of varying heights leading into the gym. The taller ones turn into a nice blue colour that matches the tables. I decide to line them up in height order so they almost integrate the height of the stage; that I do by myself as they are so light. I reorganise the stage so it is more symmetrical and I add more flowers to the stage while adding more fairy lights to the tables so when people go to get something to eat or drink they can see what they are doing.
"Okay, just the photo booth left." I say. I look at the pale blue to dark blue gradient board and I see some left over flowers. "You guys can go if you want." I say with a smile.
"Are you sure?" A girl asks as some people just run.
"Yeah I'll be fine." I say. She smiles and once I am alone in the room I take the board down and lay it on the ground. It is a nice cushion type board with white ribbon across it, creating a diamond shape along it. I count the crosses of the ribbon and I cut the heads off of the flowers, being careful as they are fake and the plastic is quite hard. I get a hot glue gun and start gluing them on the ribbon, using the spare ones to decorate the corners. It didn't feel like a long time but when I finish Ms James comes in to help.
