Chapter Thirty-nine

Roman's P.O.V

"What could I have possibly done in the short amount of time he was gone?" Dee asks when we enter the room. I am just hoping for him to give me a reason to kill him. 

"So where am I supposed to be looking exactly?" he asks Logan. He doesn't say anything he just points to Virgil's head. 

"You think Devin is hiding inside Virgil's head?" Carsen asks confused. 

"If he is he wouldn't be the first dark side in Virgil's head," I say glaring at Dee. He doesn't respond instead he sits on the bed right next to Virgil, putting one hand on his forehead and the other on his left hand. He closes his eyes. I take a step closer but Thomas grabs my arm and shakes his head to silently tell me to let it go. 

"Where are you?" Dee asks softly. "I can definitely sense something... But is it him?" he asks.

We're all just watching and waiting for something to happen. 

"I think I fou-" Dee starts to say but Virgil sits up and grabs him by his throat, eyes completely black. 

In a distorted voice he says, "Hello Dee. Nice to see you again. How long has it been?" 

Hunter's body becomes engulfed in flames and I requip the light sword into my hand. Virgil lifts his hand in our direction and a shadow grabs us both, effectively pinning us to the wall. My sword drops. 

"Wait your turn boys," he says still in a distorted voice. Then he looks at the others and waves a hand which traps them in a cage. He stands up with Dee still in his grip. 

"I've heard that you have been a bad boy Dee," he says and turns his head slightly to the side as if someone is talking to him. Then he laughs saying, "You tried to take over our host! Wow, that's rather ambitious."

He throws him across the room and he hits the wall hard enough to make a large hole. 

"Dee!" both Hunter and Carsen yell at the same time. 

Dee sits up slightly to see them and shakes his head saying, "Don't do anything. How the hell are you even still alive Devin? We saw Virgil kill you." Devin laughs once again. 

"Yeah that wasn't my best day. I never expected Virgil to actually be strong enough to beat me but I was prepared either way. I knew that if we killed another side we basically absorbed them. So with the last bit of life I had left, I latched onto him. My new host. It took longer than expected to be strong enough to take over but here I am," he explains spreading his arms with a sinister smile.

"Poor Dee, it's actually kind of sad. Your reason for taking over was to win back the heart of Virgil and you pushed everyone away to do so," he says looking at Dee but walking closer to the cage. 

He stops in front of the cage and pulls Carsen out by his throat. 

"You wanted love and never realized that Carsen here has been in love with you, for years, since before I was killed. I hope that wasn't a secret Car," he smirks pulling Carsen close to his face. Carsen pulls at Devin's arm so he can breathe for a second. 

When Devin loosens his grip Carsen returns the smirk saying, "Fuck you. Virgil beat you once, I know he'll do it again. Now if you're going to kill me, get it over with because I am getting so tired of you blabbering on."

Devin tightens his grip which cuts off his air supply. 

"You got a big mouth for being the weakest side," he says and throws Carsen against the wall as well. He continues talking saying, "However, I'm not going to kill you yet. First Virgil and I are going to have some fun."
