four years. four damned years has passed since the snap. four years since tony stark has convinced himself that this was all his fault. four years since that horrible genocide took his "son", friends and happiness from him. although, he believed every single word that Strange had said. he believes that he is the key, but he doesn't know where is the padlock he should unlock.

he thought he was going to die when he was alone in space, but luckily a random spaceship had found him half unconscius and dead and saved him, taking him back to Earth.

when he came back home nobody was there. Pepper left giving him such a stupid reason. he found a little piece of paper folded on the table of the kitchen.

"Tony,

if you're reading this you came home, and i am really happy about it.

i'm sorry i'm not there with you, but the pain is just too much. you can never be home like a normal person. every time you leave the house i pray that you would come home safe and alive. i told you not to go but once again you left.

about the dream you've done years ago, before you disappeared in space... you were right. i was pregnant."

at this point of the letter Tony starts crying. he has a son? he  couldn't see his biggest dream come true? he goes on reading.

"i was pregnant but the kid died before he was even born. involuntaly abort. the only thing that would've reminded me of you was gone. the only thing that had something of you was gone. i couldn't stand it anymore. i am trying to get over this and make a new life, and you should do the same. i am infinitely sorry, Tony. i love you,

Pepper Potts."

at this point he doesn't know what to do. he cries silently in the kitchen and sits on the ground, holding his knees to comfort himself. flashes or realization appear in his mind, telling him what to do. he's started this mess, he has to end it somehow.

He's spent The following days in his lab trying to create something to defeat Thanos. He has built new technologies, new armors and stuff that would've helped him kill that monster. The thought of Tony liberating Peter and that guy Strange is all that has kept him going. He doesn't know what's going on with his mind, but he's centered on that and he won't give up.

The days are slowly passing and finally, after about a month, tony's finally ready to go and see what he can bargain. The last time he's heard of thanos was when he was on titan. He doesn't know where he is or what he's doing, but something tells him that horrible creature is hiding on the planet he'd told him when they all were on Titan.

while getting on the spaceship he built, he looks at the world because he knows that there's a possibility for him of not to make it through it all. once he's in, he sets the automatic pilot and lets it guide to the planet. it looks so plain, so dead. he explores it for some hours before noticing a small hut on the top of a mountain. he leaves the ship, bringing his new brand armor with him.

he sneaks in the house, finding the beast who killed his son asleep on the couch made of clothes. he is tempted to blast him but something is holding him back. he just can't get revenge like this, he just can't let him die so painlessly.

what he decides to do is to stab the giant right in the heart, to make him wake up.

as he stabs him, Thanos finally wakes up screaming. Tony's eyes encounter Thanos' and he freezes. he forgot how much he hated that sighs, he forgot how much it hurt when everybody died.

"Stark... wrong step." the benemoth manages to say before holding the unarmored man by the waist, hurting him. Tony feels his organs tangling up to his throat, making him cry in pain.
