Duffy took my slick palm palm in his own. "We'll make it out of here, I promise," he told me. He roughly patted Alan on the back. We clambered down the red caboose to where that wicked man had come from. Now is the really hard part. "So I guess we jump off, aye?" I whimpered. Alan took a heaving breath.
We threesome looked at each other. "Now's our chance. If that guy could find us, anyone might," Alan said. Duffy gave us a bear hug and whispered," Just in case we don't make it." I recoiled. If Duffy thinks we're not gonna make it, then we probably won't.
We link arms and decide to take the leap. The chance for freedom. Right as we step back to jump, Valen darts up behind us and grabs Alan's collar.
"You're not going anywhere," he mutters in a deep voice.
"Quinn, jump while you can," Alan screamed. "No way Jose," I said with a grin. "Get him!" I yell to Duffy.
Duffy complies. He takes a mighty leap and lands on Valen. Valen may be a rough and tough guy but he's no match for our giant. I heard a crack and I can tell it was some part of Valen's body. Yikes. "Get of him for a minute. We need to talk," Alan said raising his bloodied hand. Duffy clambers of to come stand by me. Valen looks up from his spot on the floor. "Just kill me," he said," I have no regrets. That is except for you." Alan looked fit to burst. I almost lunge on Valen but curiosity got the better of me.
"How can you? Your life has been nothing but pain and misery. You killed your own family. Except me. Would've been better if you hadn't given me mercy," Alan sputtered ,years of suffering spilling out. "Oh no, that was merely an accident. I had every intention of killing you," Valen said. He actually didn't look guilty. What happened to him? He must've fallen in love at some point. Who in their right mind would marry that dude if there wasn't some real affection involved?
Alan voices my exact thoughts. "Yes, I did love. But it was foolish. She was a mortal and I... well it couldn't have worked out anyways," Valen confessed. Alan had tears flowing freely down his face and he was literally screaming now. "BUT SHE WAS MY MOTHER!" Valen looked at me and asked,"Why do I even try?" He had a smirk on his face and a hint of amusement in his coal black eyes. That face. A face that deserves a good beating.
So I delivered it personally.
