CHAPTER DEDICATED TO — christmas ( bc i love it sm ) ! —thanks again for 100k! —
"dad! mom! our house has got to look good, brynn and her mom are coming over and i don't want her mom to think less of us." carson yelled from downstairs, as his father's footsteps were heard from coming down to the dining room.
"don't worry, kiddo. this brynn girl you keep talking about probably won't think that." jon lueders assured, patting carson's back as carson placed plates on the table.
"my signature lasagna is almost ready!" mrs. lueders shouts from the kitchen, taking out the tray of lasagna out of the oven, with carson checking in on it.
"that's great, mom." carson smiles as his mom kisses him on the cheek.
"i'm finally not smelling like socks." jackson, carson's brother cracked up, taking a seat by the dining table.
"shocker." carson joked, with the doorbell ringing. "am i presentable?"
"no." jackson replied, with carson clenching his jaw. "i'm joking."
carson answers the door, opening it to see brynn and her mom in pretty dresses.
carson's father is taken away by hearing rumfallo, his eyes widening as the moments passed.
"ashlee?" jon spoke, going behind his son and staring into brynn's mother's eyes as brynn and ashlee stayed by the doorstep.
"jon." ashlee muttered, with brynn and carson confused.
"dinner's ready!" carson's mom, diane, exclaimed, placing the lasagna on the table.
"come in." jon said as brynn and ashlee stepped inside, with everyone taking their seats.
"thanks again mr. and mrs. lueders for having me and my mom." brynn smiled, as diane smiled back, saying, "no problem. you're a part of our family now!"
"now, i hope you enjoy that lasagna." diane stated, with jackson groaning in satisfactory.
"olivia would've loved it. too bad she's out of state." carson replied, with jon still looking at ashlee.
"you okay, dad? you're silent." jackson asked, with jon nodding in reply.
—
"excuse us." carson suddenly said, taking brynn's hand and leading her to the kitchen.
"what's wrong?" brynn questioned, concerned.
"is there something up with your mom and my dad?" carson asked, "something doesn't seem right."
"i don't know. my mom is silent just like your dad, and it's not usual that she's quiet. she's often chatting most of the time, but i don't know what's up today." brynn responded.
"what if they think we can't be together?" brynn asked, worried.
"i don't think that's it. there's something wrong and i know it." carson said, "i'm going to figure out what it is."
"i'll try to ask my mom when we get home." brynn spoke, as the two went back to the table.
—
"bye! it was nice meeting you!" diane said as brynn and ashlee exited their household.
"dad, can we talk?" carson mumbled, as jon nodded while diane and jackson proceeded upstairs.
"are you alright?" carson asked.
"i'm f-fine." jon stuttered, "it's just that,"
"what?" carson questioned.
"brynn— you never told me she was brynn rumfallo." jon emphasized rumfallo.
"what's wrong with her being a rumfallo?" carson asked, confused.
"her mother— she and i were friends in high school." jon said.
"and?" carson asked, expecting more.
"we used to date." jon spoke.
