The ring was cold in his hands as he fiddled with it inside of his pocket, fingertips tracing the circular band as blue eyes stared at him. He didn't look startled by the sudden, million dollar question that was awaiting to be said. He didn't look guilty as he heard him recall their ups and downs in the four years they were together. In fact, if Ashton was being honest, he looked a little excited and relieved. Behind the soft smile on his pink lips and the slight raise of his previously furrowed eyebrows, the nonchalant movements of his body and the look of surprise in his features, he could practically see his lover jumping up and down like a child on Christmas morning. Like the child they'd adopt as soon as their escrow closed and the house they'd bought together officially became their's to keep.

He used to believe his hope and imagination were the worst things he could have, but now it felt like everything was within in grasp. Everything he's ever wanted could be his, and it didn't matter who he used to be or what he used to do.

When he pulled the ring out, a quiet gasp filled the silenced room. His fingers squeezed the band between his fingers, the box resting on the smooth table cover. Luke's hand covered his mouth as his eyes watered, and the reaction Ashton had suspected from the man was bleeding through him as the moments ticked by. His eyes widened at the sight of the small piece of jewellery, and he heard whistles and cheers from neighboring tables as they watched the scene unfold. It was like the entire world revolved around them, and as far as Ashton's aware, Luke was his world. It was just them two sharing one of the moment important milestones of a relationship and not even their friends could stop him from falling under Luke's blue eyes.

He wants to know why after so many years Luke's eyes still have the ability to render him speechless. He wonders why he still feels so young and youthful with him, like he was still a smitten twenty-three year old and Luke was still just another daydream.

"Will you marry me?"

The words filled their air, swimming around and bouncing off walls as the salt water slipped from his boyfriend's eyes. There was no verbal response right away, but Ashton was okay with that, and he could feel the people watching them hold their breaths as everyone awaited a response.

Soon enough Luke nodded so fast the older man thought he'd break his neck, his hand placed under his nose as he sniffled.

"Yes?" He asked hopefully as a goofy smile spreads on his lips.

He could feel everyone in the room let out a breath of relief as Luke let out a quiet gasp.

"I-I..." Luke took a deep breath as he set his hand on his chest. His head was still nodding as he wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. "Yes. Yes. Oh my God, Ashton, yes."

Ashton let out his own breath of relief and he stood up from his kneeling position slowly. Not even a second passed before Luke was smashing him against his body, and they shared a kiss as Ashton slid the ring on to his finger.

"You're mine now." He grinned happily and Luke wrapped his arms around him as people cheered and congratulated them on their engagement.

Whistles sounded. Glasses clinked. Friends patted them on the shoulders and families cried that they were growing up too fast. Not that it really mattered to them in that exact moment.

"I wouldn't want to be anyone else's."
