-Skye-
I walk into the big building and look around.
"Holy heck, this place is huge." I say
"Yeah, it's really big." Andy says, "What class do you have first?" I look at my schedule.
"Math." I say
"That's room-"
"207." I say
"No it's not." He says, "Oh right, you're, like, super advanced."
"Technically, everyone here is advanced." I say, "It's a genetic thing that makes people like us smarter then most 'normal' kids our age."
"And you just happened to be smarter than that?" They joke
"Also a genetic thing." I say, "Do we have any classes together?"
"Are schedules are almost the same." They say looking at the paper in my hand.
"Expect you're in advanced everything."
"The whole grade has a lot of the magic related things at the same time, right?" I ask
"Yeah, but you're a thunder caster and I'm a dull caster." They says, "Did you choose a preforming art or something else?"
"Preforming art." I say, "Chorus."
"Oh." They say, "I have drama."
"When do you have lunch?" I ask
"Second lunch." They say
"Then I guess I'll see you then." I say, "The bell is gonna ring soon."
"Ok, see you at lunch." They say. We head off in separate directions to class."Skye!" Andy waves me over. I sit down next to them.
"How's your day been?" I ask
"Good." They say, "How's yours been?"
"Good." I say. I pull a note out of my lunchbox.
"From your moms?" They ask
"Yeah." I say
"I wish my mom did something like that." They say, "What does it say? If it isn't private..."
"Skye, how's your first day been? I made cookies, (one's in your lunchbox) they're your favorite kind. I probably won't write everyday but first days are special. -Rain <3." I say, "Oh there's more. I know school sucks, I'll give you extra cookies when you get home. (Don't tell Rain) -Ash." I take the cookie out of my lunchbox.
"You want it?" I ask
"You don't?" They ask
"You heard what Ash said, she'll give me some at home." I say
"You still call your moms by their first names?" They ask
"Yeah." I say, "I mean, we were friends before everything and it's a little more casual then, like, they raised me since I was born."
"Yeah, I guess that's true." They take a bite out of the cookie.
"This is so good." They say
"Yeah, Rain is good at baking." I say
"Just good? This is the best cookie I've hand in years." They say, "I mean, that's not saying much compared to my mom's cookies." We both laugh.
"What class do you have next?" I ask
"Casting." They say, "The whole grade has it at the same time, remember?"
"Oh right." I say, "I'm smart but I have a terrible memory."
"Same." They say, "Except the smart part."
"Oh, and you're in advanced casting." They say, "They're making thunder now."
"They're just learning that now?" I ask
"Yeah." They say, "That's, like, really advanced for our age."-Rain-
Ash hands me the phone.
"It's the school." She says.
"Hello, this is Rachel Tenna." I say
"Hi, we're calling to talk about your daughter, Skylar." The teacher says, "She got in a fight today."
"She did?" I ask, "Do you know what it was about?"
"No, she's not saying anything." They say
"Is she in trouble?" I ask
"No." They say, "We just thought you would want to know."
"Ok, thank you." I say. I hang up.
"What's that about?" Ash asks
"Skye got in a fight at school." I say
"On her first day? I'm rubbing off on her." She says
"Right now, that's not a good thing." I say"Hi." Skye says
"Hey, how was your day?" I ask
"Good." She sighs
"Do you have any homework?" I ask
"Nope. I did math in science, science in english and english in latin." She says
"That's not really a productive way to learn." I say
"I already know what they're teaching me." She says
"Ok, then tell me about the fight." I say
"What do you want to know about?" She asks
"I dunno, why you punched that kid?" I ask
"She said some things." She says
"What kind of things?" I ask
"Just... stuff about Andy, some stuff about me but I don't really care about that." She says
"Well... what'd they say?" Ash asks
"Andy was telling me how they were still confused and then she started saying shit about how they're really just a girl looking for attention." She says, "She told them that they don't deserve someone like me to be there for them and support them because attention hogs don't deserve that."
"Do you like Andy?" Ash asks, "Like, in-"
"I know which way you meant." She says, "And, kinda, yeah." Someone knocks on the door.
"Oh right, Dragon is coming over." Ash says
"Hola people." They say walking into the kitchen.
"Hey." I say
"Raindrop, long time no see." He says
"Yeah, it's definitely been a while." I say
"Hey Dragon." Skye smiles
"Hey, Sunny Skies!" They say turning to Skye.
"Hey." She says
"You sound like a Cloudy Skye right now." They sit down across from her, "Wazzup?"
"Not much." She says. She looks at her phone.
"Moms, can Andy come over?"
"Sure." I say
"Who's Andy?" They ask
"They're a friend from school and stuff." She says. There's a knock on the door. Skye gets up.
"Skye..." They sounds like they've been crying. I get up and grab the jar of cookies. The two of them walk back in.
"Hey, I'm Dragon." They smile at them.
"We have a ton of cookies if you want some." I say
"Thanks." They say
"So what's going on?" Ash asks sitting awkwardly on the back o the couch.
"This isn't about today at school, is it?" Skye asks
"A little bit." They say, "I'm just... confused."
"So I know you barely know me, but it's fine to be confused." Dragon says, "It took me, like, five years to figure out what I identify as."
"You're trans?"
"Yeah." They say, "I'm a demiboy."
"We actually have a ton of trans friends." Ash says, "Dragon, River, Beta, Eli, Ryan and Alex."
"I wish." They say, "My mom doesn't even like when I come over here because she thinks you guys are rubbing off on me. She won't even let me cut my fucking hair."
"What would happen if you did it without her permission?" Ash asks
"I'd probably be grounded." They say
"Is that it?" Dragon asks, "Nothing, like, getting hurt or anything because I'm awesome at haircuts." They smirk.
"She'd ground me and give me a long, annoying lecture but that's it."
"So, you wanna haircut?"
"Oh hells yeah."
