josh's point of view

the next morning, i wake up before anyone else. i sit up immediately, my head spinning a little at the movement.

i stretch and stand up, running a hand through my hair. it's unusually hot today, so i dont bother putting a shirt on before i go to the bathroom.

while i'm washing my hands, i look in the mirror and remember the events of last night.

i kissed tyler.

his lips tasted like the raspberry chapstick he likes to wear and i smile at the memory. i wash my face and then stand in the mirror for a second.

i don't know what he sees in me. my eyes are small and my nose is big and-

i take a deep breath and dry my face so i can leave the bathroom before i can fall too deep into my self conscious thoughts. then i go downstairs to make some coffee.

i didn't get much sleep last night, so i drink my first mug fairly quickly, and i'm on my second serving when tyler walks down. he's wearing a tanktop and rubbing his eyes with tiny fists.

"good morning," i greet him with a small smile and he blinks a few times before he says anything, his eyes roaming my chest.

i remember that he seemed somewhat flustered when he walked into my room last night and saw me, but i find it cute.

"good morning." he turns around to make himself a cup of coffee and then sits next to me at the table.

"how did you sleep?"

"good," he takes a sip before he continues, "i had a really good time last night."

"i'm glad," i kick him gently under the table and he blushes. "you're a really good kisser you know."

"no you." his cheeks burn brighter. he clears his throat. "why don't you have a shirt on?"

"enjoying the view?" i tease him and he rolls his eyes.

"maybe." he finishes up his coffee and puts his cup in the dishwasher.

i dump the remaining liquid in my cup out into the sink and then put it next to his. he's leaning against the counter and i'm in front of him. we're only about a foot apart. his hand comes up to rest on my chest.

i try to will my heartbeat to slow to a normal pace and hold my breath, nervous at what comes next.

"you're like... hot." he giggles and slides his hand down and then back up to rest on my shoulder.

i laugh and take a step back. i wouldn't be able to function properly if he moved his hand south. "thanks."

"you're supposed to compliment me back," he says, in a mostly teasing tone. he crosses his arms over his chest and moves away from the counter.

"you already know how gorgeous i think you are." i follow him as he goes to the living room to sit on the couch. i sit next to him and put my hand on his knee. "but if you need to hear it, you're hot too, tyler."

-

"i need a shower." tyler wipes his forehead. "it is too hot to be working."

"suck it up, princess. we're almost done," i tell him with a chuckle, picking out the last of the weeds.

he finishes up his half and then we head inside. "i call first dibs on the shower, and if you try and trick me like last time, i'm going to punch you in the face."

"okay, okay." i hold the door open for him and he runs up the stairs to get to the bathroom before me.

i wait in my room for him to finish, doodling in my sketchbook. when he finally does knock on my door to tell me it's my turn, i practocally jump up to get to the bathroom.

the water is cold on my skin and i stand under it for longer than normal.

when i finish up, i get dressed again and then knock on tylers door.

"tyler, open up. i'm bored."

he opens the door with an unimpressed face. "it's too hot to do anything."

"come on. we can go get milkshakes?" i offer.

his eyebrows raise. "i'm in."

in my car, we blast the a.c. and music plays quietly under it.

"when we get back, i'm taking a nap. i can't function on this little sleep," he tells me, crossing his arms again. "how far is this place?"

"well, it's kind of far. we have to go all the way into town."

we do reach our destination eventually though, and we have milkshakes in front of us within five minutes of being there.

"this is so good," he takes a long sip of his drink and then leans back, closing his eyes. "i love ice cream."

"are you not going to eat your cherry?" i look at the cherry sitting in his cup and he shakes his head and hands it to me. "i can tie a cherry stem with my tongue."

"no way. really?" he leans forward then. "do it."

i take the cherry into my mouth and knot the stem. he stares at my lips as i do so, and when i stick my tongue out he gasps.

"that's so cool," he pauses and bites his lip. "maybe the heat is making me delusional, but i really want to kiss you again."

"maybe the heat is making me delusional, but i was actually going to ask you to be my boyfriend first."

"maybe the heat is making me delusional, but i'd love to be your boyfriend."

(an: anyway,, they're dating now. so.)
