I'll Take Care Of You

Chapter 9

            "Hey." Ash said in a tired sounding voice. They must've knocked him out to get the bullet out.

            "H-hey." I replied back, wiping my tears away. He frowned a little. I guess I looked like a mess.

            Ash held his hand out towards me; a signal for me to move closer. I moved to stand next to him. Taking his hand I sat down in the chair that was by the bed. He reached up and wiped away the rest of the tears. I looked up at him and just threw my arms around his neck.

            "Oh Ashton!" I sobbed into his chest. "I was so worried! I thought I was going to lose you!"

            He pat my back, trying to soothe me. "Shhh, it's ok. I'm right here, and I will never leave you."

            I looked up at him and sniffled. "Promise?" I asked. He smiled and nodded. I leaned towards him and kissed him softly on the lips. I almost forgot where I was for a second until I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I blushed and smiled then turned around to see Skylar standing there with her hands on her hips, shaking her head.

            "Oh. Sorry Sky." I apologized.

            She chuckled. "It's ok. Just wanted to make sure my favorite cousin was okay." I saw Karen and Robert file through the door behind her. I went to sit back in the seat, while everyone else stood around the bed. Ash still had a hold of my hand. Karen rubbed his arm.

            "You okay sweetie?"

            Ash looked up at her. "Yah. I could've been better, but I'm hanging in there."

            She smiled down at him. "Well that's good." She leaned down and kissed him on the forehead. "I have to get back to work. I'll be back later tonight."

            Ash nodded then looked at his dad. "Do you have to get back, too?" He asked.

            Robert nodded then looked down at the bed. "Yep. Sorry son. But I'll be back up later with your mother. He pat Ashton's head then walked out the door.

            "Well, I better get home." Sky said. "Gram is watching the kids, and she might need help with dinner." She smacked Ashton lightly on the cheek then gave me a hug.

            "Do you need a ride home?" She asked me.

            "No, I'm good. I think I'm going to stick around here. I'll call my mom in a while."

            She nodded. "Well bye guys!" She waved as she turned and walked out the door. I turned back to Ash. We stared at each other for a bit, and then my phone rang.

            I pulled it out and looked at who it was. "Hello Cat." I said.
