(Author's Note: Joe doesn't have canonically have a surname, so I'll be giving him one. In this book, I'll refer to Joe as Joe Charbonneau.)

Like any other day, schoolchildren played and chatted across the dismal looking playground, all while the self proclaimed leader of the school, Joe, diligently watched.

Joe searched through the scattered groups of children for Y/N. He rolled his eyes as he waited for her since she was the one who suggested to meet up. Something stupid about making changes to his way of ruling over the school- regardless, he didn't pay too much attention. He only entertained her stupid little requests because there was nothing to do during the beginning of the school day.

Alas, Y/N was spotted among a group of girls, laughing and joking around. Upon seeing the gaggle of girls clown around, Joe made his way over to the group, his shadow seemed to stretch and envelop anyone in its way. The girls looked up from Y/N once the sudden darkness reached them.

"Ladies", Joe asserted. "I apologize, but I'm afraid Miss Y/N and I have business to attend to." The upperclassman's voice sent a chill down the girls' spine. Y/N giggled at their reactions and stood still as the other girls walked away. She sauntered up to Joe and placed her hand in the crook of his elbow. "Well then, let's go."

Once the two were away from any eavesdroppers, Joe inched closer to Y/N. "Miss L/N, don't ever do that again." If a threatening tone could kill, Y/N would've already been six feet under. Obviously, Y/N did nothing but laugh.

"Mr. Charbonneau, if something as little as a girl holding your arm bothers you, it's a wonder how you're supposedly running this place." Y/N rolled her eyes and let go of him. "Anyway, how are you?" She took a seat on a bench in the shadowed area of the hall.

Joe glared at Y/N but sat down, making sure to keep a distance between himself and Y/N. "It's none of your concern, L/N. Why do you waste time asking me these things?" He folded his arms and went back to watching over the schoolchildren.

"Because a broken government is a weak one. You may have had this school wrapped around your finger but you don't scare me. The other kids see that. It's only a matter of time till the lot of them muster enough courage or stupidity to go against you. It doesn't matter how much power you think you might have, but a crowd will always overpower a single person." Y/N stated in a matter-of-factly tone. Joe almost seemed to growl at the girl till she turned to face him with a dissonant smile. "Plus, you're my friend."

Joe glanced at Y/N from the side and sighed.

"Fine, but only friends."
