We Meet: Georges Méliés

It had been a regular day at the L/N general store. The store owners, M/N and F/N, had left their eldest daughter, Miss Y/N L/N, in charge of the store while they ran some errands elsewhere.

Y/N wasn't really the business owner type. She very much preferred her side job as an actress in the local theatre despite it not making her much money. Alas, it was a silly little pipe dream she had but she settled in her parents' store.

This was no problem for Miss L/N; she actually enjoyed helping around in her parents' store. She knew all the regular patrons and fellow business owners and they knew her. It was a daily routine and she liked it. Nothing strayed out of the ordinary and she was nothing less than happy that it stayed that way.

One particular day, however, Y/N couldn't help but notice a particular stranger that just seemed to wander the store, almost lost in thought while murmuring to himself. Despite his odd behavior, Y/N left the counter to go help him.

"Excuse me, sir, are you finding everything alright?"

At an almost breakneck speed, the tall stranger turned around to face Y/N. "Hello! I'm alright, but I'm looking for some parts for my contraption here." He raised his arms briefly, indicating that he needed parts for his...briefcase?  Y/N was puzzled but tried to help as much as possible.

"Sir, we don't sell parts for briefcases but we do sell very good quality briefcases." Y/N suggested, only to see the stranger shaking his head. "I apologize, Miss, I didn't explain myself." He set the briefcase on the floor. "Ta Da!"

Y/N stared at the briefcase and nothing happened. She glanced at the man and the briefcase before turning to face him completely. "Sir, are you sure you're alr-"

Out of the blue, a camera just popped out of the briefcase like magic. "Oh my goodness!" The new patron laughed heartily and held her by the shoulder. "Do not be alarmed, please. This is the contraption I was referring to. Do you by any chance sell any camera parts?"

Miss L/N was coming down from the fright she received a few seconds ago and just nodded. "Y-yes, sir. We sell camera parts." She was weary of the odd man but still had him follow her. "So, if you don't mind me asking, what is it that you do?"

The dark haired cameraman smiled. "Well, my name is Georges Méliès and I am a filmmaker." Y/N had never really heard the term before. "What is it that a filmmaker does", she asked as she searched through sections of camera parts. "Would any of these suffice?"

George inched closer to the selection in front of him. "Well, I create, lead, and develop moving pictures. It's really a wonderful thing." He said as his eyes scanned over the different bits and trinkets. "Currently, I'm a one man show", he chuckled before selecting a few things and taking her to the window. George pointed out the window to an apartment building. "My studio is there. I just moved there and it's already a lovely place to film."

Funny enough, that was the same apartment building she lived in. Of course, she didn't mention it. Instead, Y/N simply nodded and faced Méliès. "Well, I wish you luck with your camera, Mr. Méliès. Will that be all?"

Georges remembered what business brought him to the store and focused his attention once again on the camera parts. "Yes, of course, Miss...?" He didn't remember if he had asked her name or not. "L/N. Y/N L/N." Y/N answered while she bagged the camera parts for him. Georges paid and tipped his hat. "Thank you very much, Miss L/N." Y/N waved him goodbye. "Have a good day, Mr. Méliès!"
