Ever since the fight at the schoolyard, Acacia stayed by Y/N's side.
Obviously, Acacia's actions did not deter the rumors regarding her relationship with Y/N. In fact, the rumors spread like wildfire but Acacia knew that. The little Andalusian singer didn't mind, though. She didn't really care for them.
Y/N, on the other hand, didn't like them one bit.
Acacia knew Y/N meant her no ill will but it kind of bugged her that her friend's thoughts were all wrapped up in that mess.
"Really, querida", Acacia murmured in her native tongue. "Does it actually upset you that much? I mean, I don't really mind. They're rumors and that's all they'll ever be. If you're still mad about what Jane said, remember that you showed her what's what. I highly doubt that little tart will come back with any trouble."
Y/N sighed and glanced at her brunette friend. It's easy for Acacia to say that, sure, cause she can't do wrong in the eyes of the school. If Y/N hugged Acacia, or held her hand, everyone would think she's being affectionate towards her 'little wife'. However, if Acacia did any of those things, everyone would think they're just really good friends. Naturally, Y/N got the short end of the stick.
That wasn't to say the rumors deterred their affection. If the girls were at the theatre, Acacia's friends called them the 'little wives'. Y/N's parents would occasionally ask when her darling's next visit would be. Y/N and Acacia loved the nicknames, but not when they were in the company of their dreadful classmates.
Still, they loved the nicknames.
Y/N loved it a little more.
"Acacia, you know I love you and I'd never say no to you but your advice is basically me waving a white flag at them." Y/N said as she rested her head on Acacia's shoulder.
"Maybe if you stopped publicly telling me that you love me, maybe the others wouldn't make up such rumors." Acacia gave Y/N a playful look. "But don't worry, I love you too."
Y/N scoffed jokingly. "You don't mean that, my dear." She clutched her heart dramatically and faked a soft sob. "Your love has been nothing but a charade. You could never love a girl like me."
Acacia laughed, her voice chimed like a porcelain bell. "My dear, there's nobody I'd rather love than you. Surely, you'd believe me lest you wish to break my heart."
The h/c haired girl laughed. "You're funny, Acacia. This is exactly why people joke about us." She sighed happily and rested her head on Acacia's shoulder. "If I were a boy, would you like to court me?"
"Are you daft? You don't need to be a boy for me to court you", Acacia uttered softly as she drew on a scrap of paper from a prior class. "Y/N, you're my closest friend. Frankly, I think it's very foolish of you to assume I don't love you."
Oh, god.
An awfully uncomfortable nauseous feeling settled in Y/N's stomach. Suddenly, she felt like she was drowning, her lungs grasping for air. Her heartbeat accelerated and she felt goosebumps. Realization hit her like a brick as she discreetly glanced at Acacia.
Oh, Acacia.
"I love you too, Acacia", Y/N murmured before closing her eyes, daydreaming of seemingly impossible possibilities.
