Classes were done for the day. Y/N waited for Acacia outside the school fence since Joe wanted to talk to Acacia. Y/N always got a weird vibe from Joe, but Y/N didn't mention it to Acacia since she didn't want to seem possessive of her.
While Y/N waited for Acacia, she heard some murmurs from her classmates. Then, she heard some giggling. Y/N's eyes scanned the semi-empty courtyard and saw a group of students all whispering and giggling amongst themselves whilst occasionally glancing at Y/N.
Obviously, Y/N wasn't the type to just keep her mouth shut, so she did what any proper young lady in her position would do: she marched up to the group of students and confronted them. "I'm sorry, but I'd like to know what's so funny." She crossed her arms across her chest and stared Jane down, the girl who Y/N assumed was the leader of the group.
"Oh, nothing. We just think it's all very sweet how you always wait for your dear friend. If we didn't know any better, we'd think you're sweet for Miss Acacia." Jane stated nonchalantly. "I mean, if I'm frank, it's pretty disgusting."
It was obvious Y/N was vexed, but she kept herself in check. "Funny, because just like most things, literally no one asked for your opinion. Bold of you to assume you're funny for saying such blatant lies."
Jane was quick to put Y/N down again. "Bold of you to assume we can't all see the disgusting affection you have towards her. It's repugnant and unnatural. You're a revolting, deplorable girl- well, I'm not even sure you can be called that."
"How dare you!" Y/N gasped before grabbing Jane by her braids and pushing her to the ground. Jane screamed and tried to fight back, scratching and kicking as much as she could. A group of children circled the two girls and began rooting for whomever they thought would win.
Meanwhile, Joe and Acacia were just finishing their conversation when they heard a commotion just outside in the courtyard. They both peered through a window and saw a group of kids circling what seemed to be a fight. Joe scoffed. "I'm surrounded by idiots", he muttered before making his way out. Acacia followed him, a bad feeling settling in her stomach.
Acacia ran out to the courtyard and pushed through her fellow classmates. To her horror, Y/N was in the midst of it, screaming at Jane and pulling her hair. "Y/N, get off of her!" Acacia pushed Y/N off, holding her back from fighting any further.
Jane scratched Y/N right on the cheek and laughed once she got pulled back up by one of her friends. "You're lucky your little wife came to your rescue, Miss Y/N!" She was hurt but she was beyond satisfied to see Y/N fuming mad. "Wait till word gets out of your little stunt! You'll get locked up at the loony bin!"
Y/N was about to throw herself at Jane again, but Acacia held her tighter and Joe stepped in between Y/N and Jane. "Listen, Miss Jane, if word gets out of what happened here today, you'll be out of here so fast, you'll be nothing but a pesky memory in everyone's mind, rest assured." Joe threatened Jane in that deathly sharp tone he used so well. Normally, he wouldn't have cared about what the idiots he had the displeasure of interacting with did, but Y/N was a friend of Acacia's, so he did his best to look good for her.
"Come on, Y/N. Let's go", Acacia muttered as she walked out with Y/N. "We need to get you cleaned up. Can't have you looking all scuffed up when you go back home." She gave Y/N a soft, reassuring smile, hoping to turn her friend's sad, little frown upside down.
Timeskip
"Now, are you finally going to tell me what happened?" Acacia sat with Y/N at the theatre, tending to Y/N's wounds. She was disinfecting the scratch on her Y/N's cheek, all while Y/N winced and complained. "I don't want to tell you", Y/N mumbled before hissing in mild pain. "It stings, Acacia!"
Acacia rolled her eyes. "Well, it'll keep hurting till you tell me so I suggest you tell or I ask somebody at school. Lord knows the entire school was there."
Y/N couldn't tell her. She feared that Acacia would find her just as disgusting and reprehensible as Jane did. Losing Acacia would break her heart, Y/N was sure of it. She felt ill just thinking about it. "I'm sorry, but I just cannot tell you. I don't want you thinking of me differently. You're my closest friend and I can't afford to lose you."
Acacia realized that Y/N was being serious. If she went through with a fight just to keep something a secret, she simply had to be serious. "Y/N, I promise I won't treat you any different than I do now. I just need you to be honest with me. What happened?"
Y/N tried. She really did try not start crying cause she didn't want to seem like a crybaby but it was all so frustrating and she was exhausted. Alas, she couldn't help it and so, she started sobbing.
"Jane started it. She said that I was disgusting and shouldn't even be considered a girl cause it's wrong of me to love you. Then she said that it's reprehensible and she called you my wife and she said I'm deplorable." Y/N furiously wiped off the tears on her cheek- mainly cause it made the superficial cut in her cheek sting, but it also hurt her pride.
Acacia was a bit taken aback. "I can't believe she said all that. I'm sorry, Y/N." She hugged Y/N tight. "She had no right to say that. You're leagues better than her and she should know better than to threaten any friend of mine."
"So you're not mad?" Y/N asked quietly. Acacia laughed and shook her head. "Of course not, silly. I love you too. You're the closest friend I have and I wouldn't lose you for the world." Y/N sighed with relief and hugged Acacia. "Thank goodness."
