Alan's POV

I smiled down at my ring as Vic sat beside me on the phone with someone from the church. I didn't know who it was, but it seemed like a pretty serious conversation. This ring was perfect and I honestly couldn't stop staring at it. I couldn't believe he actually asked me to marry him. It was unreal.

"I know that, but you can leave anytime and come to the church. This is a safe place," Vic said to whoever was on his phone. I gave him a look, who was he talking to?

I grabbed Vic's hand and he held it, feeling the ring with his finger. He gave me a smile and kissed my forehead lightly. I smiled back at him before just listening to his call.

"What was that about?" I asked him when he hung up.

"Just a few people from the outreach program," he told me.

"Really?"

Vic nodded and played with the ring on my finger. "Yeah, they're wanting to get away from Jack."

"Yeah, he sucks."

"Yeah, he does," Vic said and raised my hand up and kissed my ring finger softly.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Yeah, what's up?" He asked.

"Has my dad talked to you more?"

"He has," Vic confirmed, giving me a suspicious look.

"Is my mom hurting him?"

"Ash, I can't betray his confidence," he said softly.

"I wanna know what my mom's doing to him."

Vic sighed and gave me a look and started nodding his head slowly. "I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not your mom is hitting your dad," Vic said slowly.

"So she is?"

"I cannot tell you that," Vic said, nodding his head again.

"Is it bad?"

"It's not good," he said decisively.

"Can you do anything to help him?"

"Not without his permission."

"Oh damn."

Vic hummed.

"I think this next Sunday I'm gonna try to make amends with my parents of sometime during the week. I just need to talk to them in general. I miss them."

"Your dad misses you too," Vic told me. "More than anything."

"Really?" I asked quietly.

"Yeah, he never wanted to kick you out," Vic said softly.

"He said that?"

"Yeah."

"When I see him again at church or something I'm gonna talk to him," I said before I gave Vic a soft kiss.

"That sounds like a good idea."

I smiled at him, "Where's Wendy?"

"She's at work till six tonight."

"She got a job? When did she get a job?" I exclaimed.

"She started last week, I'm surprised she didn't tell you."

"That's awesome, I'm so happy for her."

"Yeah, she's waitressing but at least it's a job, you know?"

"That's better than no job, like me. I should probably get one, I'm getting spoiled without one."

"You don't need a job," Vic said.
