Laughs

I woke to my phone buzzing beside me. I answered the call, "Hello?" I said groggily.

"Ice skating." the voice said, and I could hear the smile in their voice.

"Michael, it's 10am, what are you-"

"Ice skating!" he said louder, chuckling when I groaned.

"What are you-"

"Madison, Come ice skating with me! I'll pick you up in an hour." he said before hanging up.

I hadn't seen Michael in person is almost 3 weeks. After Luke started question we decided we'd keep it on the DL for a while. We still called, texted and facetimed when we could. It was the second week of December, the weather becoming crisper. Obviously, because Australia is Australia, we never get snow but I still do all the wintery activities. My favourite was ice skating.

My parents had put me in figure skating when I was 5, keeping me in it till I was 14. I loved skating but at the age of 15, I didn't see much in the sport.

An hour later, I was walking out to Michael's car. He was leaning against the far side of his car, making him almost invisible to me. I went around the car, seeing him take a drag from a cigarette. He smokes? That would explain the smell of his car.

I cleared my throat, seeing him throw the cigarette to the ground before stepping on it. He looked embarrassed.

"I only smoke sometimes, when I'm stressed and stuff." he said, opening my door for me. "Why are you stressed, baby?" I said, concerned.

His eyes widened at the pet name before smiling, "I don't want Luke to kill me."

He got in the car and we drove off, the drive was kind of quiet until he spoke up. "So 'baby', huh? That's new." he smirked, putting his hand on my thigh.

"Move your hand up anymore and you won't be hearing another name from my lips."

"Is that a threat?" he said, watching the road and me equally.

"I don't know, I could call Calum baby instead." I said, smirking. I knew it would bug him. Calum's feelings for me had made him uncomfortable ever since we were a thing.

He looked up at me seriously, "The only person you'll be calling baby is me." He said, kissing me roughly but quick. We went inside the recreation centre, the newly froze ice, looking smooth and clear. Because of the time, there was no one here. Who goes indoor skating at 11 in the morning on a Monday? Michael and I.

He tied my skates for me, just how my dad use to for me. We waddled to the ice and we both stepped off smoothly.

Michael played hockey as a kid, his skating looking exactly like walking. I pushed off, swirling around on the ice to get into the groove. I hopped, twirling in the air and landing perfectly.

"Where do you learn that Mrs. Show-Off?" he laughed. "I did skating when I was younger." I said, sticking a leg up to glide. He skated over to me, holding my hips. There was a slowish song playing over the PA, an oldie. He began to slow dance with me, making me giggle. He held out one of my arms, his other arm on my waist, mine on his shoulder.

We slowly moved closer and closer, our noses brushing each other. I leaned closer to connect our lips when I stumbled, bringing us to the ground.

Michaels body fell on me softly, our laughter almost sounding like music. Our laughter died down, leaving him staring into my eyes like he was looking for something, neither of us moving an inch. His eyes flickered down to my lips and back up to my eyes, almost like he was asking permission. I nodded as he leaned down to kiss me. Our lips pressed together, this kiss feeling different from most of our kisses. I felt and tasted something different. Passion.

A man from the doors, coughed, our eyes snapping up. Michael stood, pulling me up with him. We laughed our whole way out of the rink, hand in hand.
