❛ I like puzzles ❜
After the unexpected trip from her brothers, Blair Sprouse had taken extra care of herself to take her medications and leave room for relaxation. Cole and Dylan hadn't left before telling Tom to keep an eye on their sister and to make her feel as awesome as she was. That left them to practically giving Tom their blessing because they knew Tom was the best person for Blair to be around in her stressed state.
Tom had many ideas on how to help Blair mellow out, and he had started a list on all of them. It hung by his bed on his trailer wall just holding itself up with a single thumbtack.
A puff of air left Tom's mouth as he blew raspberries into the air. As he stood in front of his mirror in his bathroom, he straightened out his white collar of his navy blue button down shirt with white flowers decorating the torso. A smile graced his lips as he flattened out his shirt, and with no rush, he closed the bathroom door behind him and exited the trailer with jacket in hand.
He walked confidently across the trailer yard where dozens of more mobile homes were stationed that belonged to actors and actresses abroad.
The air seemed still as Tom walked in between the trailers, knowing everyone was inside and congratulating themselves on a day well done. The stunt doubles were probably enjoying coffees and pastries inside the break room after flipping and fighting all day long.
But Tom wasn't anticipating his next scene, or remembering the lines he spoke earlier in the afternoon.
He was smiling as he stood before Blair's door after softly knocking not once but twice.
After a moment, the blonde beauty that he had fallen for stood in front of him with a raised eyebrow, "Tom, hi!" she beamed, opening the door to allow him inside. Tom graciously accepted and entered her humble abode, seeing a new framed picture of her and her brothers resting on the coffee table in front of the couch.
"I was just catching up on The Tonight Show," she admitted, gesturing to the television that was playing softly in the background of her temporary home. "Fallon sure is something," Tom grinned. Blair chuckled and ran a hand through her hair, "It would be a dream to be interviewed by him," she smiled before folding her arms across her chest and pursing her lips. "Good things happen to those who wait," he responded.
Blair hummed and glanced back at the TV as Jeniffer Lawrence made another joke. She giggled and Tom found himself smiling at her simple beauty.
Cole certainly was right. Once you got Blair to laugh, it was truly something else.
"Hey," Tom spoke, interrupting the calm silence between the two and the noise of Fallon. "There's this quiet pizza place ten minutes away. You hungry?"
•••
Laughter filled the room as Blair lightly pushed Tom's shoulder, then gripping his bicep to keep herself steady as both her and the British actor sat on the couch of Tom's trailer after enjoying pizza and one, okay two, pints of ice cream between the two of them.
The leftover ice cream sat on the coffee table in front of the couch with two spoons lodged inside of the half-full pint of Bluebell Vanilla ice cream. Neither of the actors had the stomach to finish it, but they didn't have the heart to separate to their individual trailers and go to bed.
"Whew," Blair breathed out as she struggled to keep her breath, "Were you always this funny?" she then asked, glancing up at the man with a large smile that stretched across her cheeks. Tom rolled her eyes, "Yes, you just never noticed because you're always with Sebastian."
"Woah-kay, Mr. Jealous!" she yelled out with a dry laugh leaving her lips. "Someone is mad he's not getting the attention the Winter Soldier is."
Tom scoffed, "Yeah, right."
Blair mimicked the man with a cynical 'Yeah, right' and Tom pushed her shoulder before getting up and walking to the tiny closet near the bathroom. "Hey," he called out from the other side of the room. Blair looked behind her to see Tom standing on his tip-toes to reach something from the top shelf, "Do you like puzzles?" he asked, grabbing the box he had been reaching for from the shelf. "I like puzzles," he shrugged, answering his own question as he stumbled over to the coffee table.
"This is two-hundred pieces," Blair said in disbelief. Tom nodded, "Yep, and we're going to finish the entire thing tonight."
"Tonight?" Blair questioned in disbelief, having no faith in herself nor in Tom to finish this puzzle in one sitting. "Tonight," Tom replied while pulling the lid off the box and tossing it to the side.
"No, Tom, we need that," Blair said while reaching behind the man to grab the lid. Tom quickly pushed her hand away and shook his head, "No, we're gonna' do it without the lid."
"Tom!"
"I like puzzles," Tom shrugged and dumped the entirety of the pieces onto the table then spreading them apart with his fingers. Blair scrunched his elbows and her jaw dropped at the person before her, "Are you crazy? We're going to be up until 2!"
"Relax, it's a puppy, it can't be that hard."
"I assume you've done this before, since you're so confident it won't take us five hours to do," Blair hopelessly sighed while picking up the ice cream carton from the table and shoving a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. Tom shook his head, "Harrison just got this one for me a few weeks ago. Sent it in my mum's care package."
Blair groaned, "This is going to be a mega disaster."
Tom reached behind him and grabbed the ice cream from Blair's hand and shoved a spoonful into his mouth. "Relax, Mabel, if we go down then at least we go down together."
"Tom, you just used my spoon," the girl blankly stated while motioning to the one spoon not being used in the ice cream and the one in Tom's hand. He stared at it for a moment and then proceeded to scoop another spoonful up, "I'm not sick," he simply said while lifting the spoon up and holding it outside Blair's mouth.
She opened her mouth and ate the ice cream off of the spoon before Tom lowered it back into the carton to get himself a scoop. "Fair enough," Blair shrugged, then starting to flip the pieces over to start the puzzle.
Tom continued to feed himself and Blair the ice cream until they literally couldn't stomach another bite. And the night continued on with Blair throwing puzzle pieces at Tom and laughing as he chucked them back.
Her giggles filled the room, making it a welcoming environment for anyone to enter within the following days. Her presence on just that one night as she struggled to find the corner pieces of the puzzle warmed Tom's heart and made him wish that at that moment he could tell her what he wanted to.
But when you're completing a puzzle without the directions, things get complicated. Especially when that puzzle is a nineteen-year-old blonde girl with a heart with more of a value than gold.
